THE GREAT LAKES WINTER DECATHLON is an international competition featuring ten classic and modern nordic and alpine events. The goal of the GLWD is to develop a winter sporting contest modeled after the Greek decathlon, for the Winter Olympic games. Entrants compete in ten of eleven events and receive points corresponding to the order in which they finish. The competitor with the lowest number of total points at the end of the season is awarded the Ullr Cup, named for the Norse God of skiing, and a ramshorn stein filled with a specially brewed Nordic lager.
