Welcome to Friendship House
Here are some ways that you and your
family can be involved. |
English
Conversation Groups for Men and/or Women
These classes for Adults (minimum age 18) provide opportunities
to speak English in a casual setting. Make new friends,
learn about American culture and practice your spoken English in
a relaxed setting.
Topics for discussion include such things as American holidays,
cooking, crafts, current events in the newspaper, sports,
medical terms, etc. You are welcome to bring your
questions about America to these classes which meet once a week
for 1 to 1 1/2 hours and are led by volunteers from the Lansing area.
Bible Classes
We have found
that many
international people have never studied the Christian Bible and would
like
to learn about this unique book. Opportunities for individual or
group classes are provided.
We also have free Bibles available in
many
languages for international students, as well as free DVDs on the life
of Jesus (available in 8 languages including Chinese, Korean and
Japanese). Please contact the
Friendship House
for more information. intlstum@msu.edu
Mom and
Child Play Time
The Mom and
Child Play Time
is set up to provide the child and his/her parent with opportunities
for
activities with other parents and children. Sometimes we just
play
and chat. Other activities include singing, Bible story, crafts
and
snack time. These Play Times are for children from birth to 3
years
and the child's parent or care giver.
Friendship Activities
Going to a
baseball game,
attending a Thanksgiving dinner, a one-day trip to Lake Michigan or
Chicago,
visiting a church for a special activity. There are various
activities
provided throughout the year so you can experience more of American
culture
with American friends. For information, please contact the Friendship
House for details. (517) 332-8050; intlstum@msu.edu
Church
Many international students are interested
in attending
a church to observe and learn more about
the American culture and the part
Christianity plays
in American life.
Please contact the Friendship House for
information
or to arrange a personalized visit to a church. intlstum@msu.edu
