It is amazing that a simple insertion of a needle can influence the entire physiology of the dog's body. The goal of acupuncture is to balance the energy system of the dog's entire body so that her problems will not continue.
The acupuncture points are specific places along lines of energy that connect with specific functions of the body. Basically, if a dog has a poblem with an area of her body, the acupuncture point that is connected to that problem area is treated.
The great thing about acupuncture is that Dogs Love It!! During the acupuncture treatment, endorphins are released from the brain, which leads to sleepiness. Holistic veterinarians have told me that dogs' love this sensation and they are excited when their next treatment comes around.
It is a gradual process that is considered highly efficient when correcting problems but it is not a quick fix. In fact, most holistic remedies are not quick fixes.
Dog owners love acupuncture because the rebalancing of the energy system in the body not only corrects the dog's probem, but the dog seems more energetic and happy.
Lastly, even when no symptoms of illness are present, a dog's acupuncture points can be checked to make sure that none of them are deficient. If a point is deficient,acupuncture treatment can be used to avoid the development of problems that would be the result of this decrease in energy.
