kolorex and yeast

i received the following email from Forest Herbs Research Ltd, a small company in New Zealand, in early september 2000. the information sounded interesting, but i didn't want to just slap it on my website and make it sound like it had come from me, so we agreed to make their email available to all of you. if you have questions about the product or company, please direct your emails to them through their website at www.forestherbs.co.nz.

Dear Sir/Madam:

The reason for this correspondence is to provide you with some information about our Kolorex products and where you can find more information.

We have a website, www.forestherbs.co.nz, where you are able to access information about our products and the company or we could send you information if you would like to provide us with a postal address.

Who is Forest Herbs Research Limited?

We are a small company with its office in the city of Nelson, New Zealand. Our herb research and production farm (Kaituna) is situated in the top western corner of the south island in a temperate rain forest adjacent to a million acres of pristine national park.

Forest Herbs endeavours to replicate the ecological niche of the native herbs it grows so the plants are not stressed and can be grown without chemical sprays or artificial fertilizer. Most of the herbs need to be grown under the shelter of a forest canopy which means the use of much hand labour.

We have an ongoing commitment to research and development at Forest Herbs. We see our products in an evolutionary context so we are constantly researching refinements. Our work with new target plants is also ongoing and within the next few years we expect to release more products as useful as the Kolorex range.

Information About Kolorex

Both the Kolorex capsules and cream contain extracts from the Horopito plant, so let me begin by explaining a little about this plant.

Horopito (Pseudowintera colorata) is a very slow growing sub canopy shrub. It contains in its leaves a strong anti-fungal agent called polygodial. Laboratory experiments have shown this agent to be particularly effective against Candida albicans, the main organism responsible for vaginal yeast infections and intestinal yeast infections. Scientists at the University of Canterbury (New Zealand) found polygodial compared favourably with the powerful pharmaceutical anti-fungal Amphotericin B. Subsequently researchers at the University of California found that the addition of anethole (the main active in aniseed) to polygodial lifted its effectiveness against Candida albicans 32 times. A German team found polygodial to be many times more effective against fungi (yeasts) than against bacteria and found no mutagenic activity.

Kolorex Capsules have two active ingredients. One is the finely milled leaves of horopito, which was a traditional medicinal plant of the Maori. It was discovered in the 1980's that horopito contained a powerful antifungal agent called polygodial. These capsules also contain finely milled anise seed which is a traditional South American medicinal plant that has anethole as its main active ingredient.

Kolorex Cream has been formulated to provide relief from superficial infections caused by yeasts, fungi and bacteria. It is frequently used against fungal rashes and itches such as athletes foot, jock itch and vaginal yeast infection. It is also effective against the bacteria Gardnerella (hemophilus), one of the most common causes of vaginitis after Candida albicans.

Kolorex Cream contains apricot kernal oil which makes up the expensive but natural base. Aloe vera has some antifungal properties but its primary role is to soothe and heal. The Tea Tree oil we use is very strong but a natural product.
