Alright, so what does this have to do with Progressive Torch & Twang, or anything related to Americana music? Well, not a whole lot, I reckon. But Doug's friend Vitas, who did most of the original work on this homepage, loves Black Label.
This is his story:
"You see, back when Doug and I used to hang out in East Lansing, back before I moved to Atlanta, [he has since moved to Chicago] we used to go out to the Peanut Barrel to hoist some Black Labels and talk music. Those were good days.
"One day we went out to see Richard Buckner play at the Small Planet (grossly underattended show -- probably one of the coolest artist to catch in that intimate of a situation and only about 20 folks showed up). At the show we bumped into radio diva Jamie DePolo, and, of course, Doug and I being the manic fan boys that we were, we invited Jamie out to the Peanut Barrel after the show to have a drink (Black Label, of course) and talk music.
"What does this all lead to? Well, I guess the configuration of the show for about two years, a better understanding of twang music for myself, and some friendships that will last a lifetime.
"But why Black Label? Well, I guess because they don't have it down
here in the south. At least not at any of the places I've looked."
