Playlist for November 14, 2000

Tonight we featured music from the soundtrack to "O'Brother, Where Art Thou", a new film (slated for a December 22 release in the U.S.) by the Coen Brothers (Fargo, The Big Lebowski, Raising Arizona, etc). It was released in September in Paris so I had the opportunity to see it and I would highly recommend it. It's like the Odyssey set in the American South in the 30s. The music is fabulous, with new recordings from Ralph Stanley, Emmylou Harris, Gillian Welch, John Hartford, Norman Blake, Alison Krauss, etc, etc.  The list goes on!  They are all new recordings (except for a version of Angel Band from the Stanley Brothers from the 50s) produced by T-Bone Burnett. We also played a set for a very special friend, Stefanie Conrad, who was returning to her homeland of Germany.
