Playlist for October 31, 2000

For only the second time since I began doing the show, Halloween fell on a Tuesday night. For some of our other prime-time shows, such as the all metal "Hourz-o-Power" or the industrial/techno show "The Mechanical Pulse", putting on an all Halloween show is a walk in the park, but what about 4 hours of Americana/roots music?  The task proved to be easier than I imagined, as there is lots of haunting music with all the old-time songs about the devil, murder ballads and grave diggers.  Plus the listeners called in with lots of Halloween-related requests.  We also did an appropriate feature on the "Man in Black", focusing on his new "Love God Murder" box set and the release of American Recordings III. Finally, I promised to shock the listeners at some point -plus- there was a huge CD giveaway if you could guess what costume I was wearing in the studio.  Turns out the two were connected, since I had dressed up as Devo (Freedom of Choice era with the Flowerpot hat) and ended out the show with 15 minutes of Devo.  As the night progressed, I gradually gave out hints.  One very intuitive winner got it on the second hint, and we took the first three callers after I unleashed the Devo.  Although they are not twang, Devo still kicks!
