President Report
Delta Chi is looking forward to a strong spring semester, with an active athletic, social and philanthropic schedule.  We are having both our alumni golf outing, and Jimmy V. Foundation volleyball tournament this semester, so look for updates on both of those coming soon.  With 68 brothers total and 32 living in, our house is also geared up for a strong spring rush. Check out our rush page for more information or contact Mark Winters at (317)-908-3609.

Status of the House
Delta Chi remains one of the largest and most impressive houses on all of Michigan State University's campus. The game room, dormer and big room have also been repainted in what has been a large series of house improvements.  The improvements to 101 Woodmere include new floors in the first floor and dormer as well as brand new couches for the big room. This spring semester will undoubtedly witness even more updates to the already improved house condition.

Associate Member Program

Currently the Associate Member Program is awaiting a large pledge class to result from the upcoming rush of Spring ‘07.  Once committed to the house the associate members will have a series of weekly big bro little bro events to promote brotherhood.  As well as a jam packed social calendar including One on Ones, Blue Sky Parties, and Closed Rush

Sports

Delta Chi is still among the top fraternities on campus when it comes to athletics. Last fall we placed second in soccer and made it to the quarterfinals in both football and dodgeball. This spring we are competing in indoor soccer and basketball, with hockey starting up soon. Last year, we took home the hockey championship and made the semi-finals in basketball.

Alumni Relations
The alumni golf outing is once again being planned for this spring. Please check the website soon for more updates.

Alumni Information
Look for a new edition of the Scimitar soon. In the meantime, we are looking for any new alumni news. You can send your updates to deltachi@msu.edu.

Alumni Information
Beginning with this modest article, we hope to begin a new era of alumni relations with the replacement of the hard-copy Scimitar with this new Online Scimitar.  We will electronically publish on a quarterly basis, or more often once brothers begin to provide more information.  Deadline for input from alumni is the 45th day of each calendar quarter.  We hope to increase alumni contributions of personal updates, photos and interesting stories to eventually make up more than half the Online Scimitar content.

The benefits of producing an online version of the Scimitar include:

  • more timely updates;
  • more control of the content;
  • a reduction in costs associated with printing and mailing;
  • allow donations from alumni to flow directly to the Michigan State Chapter.
The old Scimitar production program resulted in all alumni donations going towards publishing, printing and mailing costs. This Online Scimitar program will allow alumni of the Michigan State Chapter of Delta Chi to donate money directly to our own fraternity house and the active members.
So, get out those checkbooks and donate directly to the house or the Delta Chi Educational Foundation.  When donating to the Educational Foundation, make sure to direct the contribution to the Lacchia/Michigan State Fund for proper processing and addition to the account for MSU Delta Chi scholarships only. This year we have awarded $6,000 in scholarships to six of our Michigan State Chapter actives.

Mike McEachern  has moved to Oregon, where he is an attorney with the Oregon Education Association.  Stuart Jeffares can provide contact details

The 10th Annual "I had a dream" Alumni Ski Trip went to Breckenridge this year.  Brothers John "Birthday Boy" Polakowski ('83), John Paul "No Show" Jones ('83), Glen "BoBo" Hackman ('82), Richard "Don't Call Me Skip Any More" Stephens ('83), Steve "Didn't I Pay You?" Klein ('86), and Stuart "I Hate Planning This Thing" Jeffares ('84) were all in attendance. The slope conditions were fair, but nightlife, the old/new stories and the renowned wine country of central Colorado made the trip a success. Unfortunately, a planned rendezvous with Brother Rich Collins ('86) didn't happen due to Rich's ongoing battle with old age.
Brothers shown below in this photo provided by Stuart Jeffares are left to right: JPJ, SK, GH, SJ, friend Tim Smith, Skip, Glen's brother-in-law John Schaefer, and Polo.  [Editor's note: all brothers in photograph are over the age of 21 (and drinking 2-fisted)

John Kelly ('86) was recently elected as the president of the Delta Chi Building Corporation, MSU Chapter. He succeeds Marv Howell who has served as President for the past several years.  Also retiring from the Delta Chi Building Corporation is Lee Bowen.  Thanks, Marv and Lee, for your many years of service to the Building Corp.

Brother Jim Poshek, jposhek@aol.com, occupies his time defending his sister's honor in Florida, and sends along his greetings along with a photograph of his new girlfriend, Beatrice, whom he has been dating for a few months.  Your editor has had the distinct pleasure of many nights out-on-the-town in South Beach with Posh over the past 8 months.  I want everyone to know that although Posh has committed a continuous butchering of the English language, there has been no repeat of his esteemed "Buzz-of-the-week" performance from Homecoming 1999.

Brother Tim Udell has returned from several years in Mexico. Tim is finishing his MBA, enjoying a return to Spartan Sports and learning how to do his own yard work again. Tim, his wife Anne-Marie and their 2 daughters live in Birmingham.

Brother Gary Foxworth, garyfoxworth@aol.com, writes:
I am currently working for Kelly Services.  I have been working here for the last five years to improve a national home care program for the ill and aged.  I am a Regional Manager for Kelly Assisted Living Services.  The need for eldercare services are great, yet there are many hurdles to make these services affordable with competent caregivers.
I have been married to Kelly (not my employer) for seventeen years.  We have two children. John Patrick (JP) Downey Foxworth - 8 years old and Claire Downey Foxworth - 2 years old.  I also continue to get involved with fraternal organizations.  I am Akela (Den Leader) for Den Five of Cub Scout Troop 1007, Detroit Area Council.

Rixon Rafter, class of 1984, is currently a Commander in the U.S. Navy. He is working at the Pentagon as a Special Assistant to the Chief of Naval Operations.  Rixon is married with three lovely daughters.  If anyone is in or is going to be in the Washington D.C. area please drop him an email at rcrafter@erols.com

Richard A Collins and wife gave birth to Joseph Richard Collins at 9:15am February 7th.  Joseph weighed 8lb 4oz and mother and baby are doing just fine.  Congratulations to the new addition to the Collins family.

As for yours truly, your Online Scimitar Editor (and missing-in-action President of the MSU DChi ABT), I can be reached at jp@jpjones.com or 248-417-2990.  I remain as politically incorrect as ever, and I’m having a great time at it.
I'm currently setting a personal record for commute time, working out of San Mateo, California four days per week, with my office in Waltham, MA, while living in Franklin, Michigan when the weather is good and Miami Beach, Florida when the weather is good.  As you can imagine, I spend a good deal of my time in airplanes and spend my free time hunting and field trialing my bird dogs, Janko and Lexy (2 Vizslas), and spend the rest of my time being a bird dog, as the photo below indicates, “on point” on Playmate Victoria Silversted at The Clevelander in Miami Beach.

Please remember to submit your updates to me by May 15th for the next edition of the Online Scimitar targeted for June 1st publication.  With the proliferation of digital cameras, there should be some great alumni photo updates (and testimony to the aging process, balding process and effects of gravity) following the April 21st golf outing.
