Until The End of Time
2 Pac

Ratings
1 to 10 Scale 1 is the worst, 10 the best

I wasn't aware that 2Pac was adept at 'takin hits from the 80s' and making them 'sound so crazy', but he is. This grueling double CD from the estate of 2Pac has some high points, but it's mostly filled with average Pac tracks. Nonetheless "Until the End of Time" is filled with ominous and dark lyrics, making it intriguing if not a strictly hot rap album.

Let me give you the only songs that stand out to me at all: "Breathin", "Until the End of Time", "M.O.B.", "Why U Turn on Me", and "Lastonesleft". These are the only songs that even appear on my radar. The rest of the songs are just very average 2Pac. While I'm not saying that the other songs have no good lyrics or anything to them, they cause me to doze. Most of the songs simply have the feel that 2Pac is just going through the motions. This is probably why we haven't heard a lot of these songs before now.

"Until the End of Time" is good, but probably one too many. After listening to Pac call out Bad Boy vehemently repeatedly it is ironic that he's remaking more hits from the 80s than P Diddy himself. The song is good, but it isn't changes and it is a little bit mushy. I can live with mushy, but it's about one notch past where I'm 100% buying in. There's something less than sincere about the song. Don't get me wrong, it's the best rap song on the radio right now; but it's not a Pac centerpiece effort.

The other songs I have chosen are largely Outlawz type songs where Pac gets excited. In one particularly funny incident 2Pac demands that Wendy Williams be sent to the Jenny Craig fat farm. The other songs I have picked out all have exceptional beats and good hard core 2Pac mixed in (Thanks to Javier Moreno for the correction on this). They aren't the most meaningful songs, but they're interesting to listen to. These songs are definitely in the Death Row vein. The CD may have a reflective cover, but it's produced by Suge Knight and Pac is still feuding with the East.

This CD is not one that I particularly like. I don't understand why this needs to be two CD's. It was grueling to suffer through all of the songs on here. There are remixes of songs that are no good to begin with. There is a high percentage of average and poor songs on here. This is really stretching it. It's obvious that the powers that be are trying to wring 2Pac's legacy for everything they can. Either that, or Afeni Shakur is back on crack.

While many would consider that comment harsh, I consider this CD to be an affront to the legacy of 2Pac. The market is being flooded with 2Pac trash. There is an embarrassing supply of absolute shit on the shelves at record stores everywhere. This kind of trash reeks of greed. The inside cover also informs us that there will be another cd of bottom of the barrel 2Pac coming out next year. Let it be, people. With every half assed effort that comes out it dims 2Pac's legacy of rap excellence.

Favorite line[s]

"When my mama ask me will [ever] I change, I tell her yeah/but it's clear I'll always be the same."

- This is just another example of fatalistic Pac at his best. It's lost cause done very well. Note on this quotation, the song dose not contain the word 'ever', but the same line is quoted on the album book as containing the word 'ever'.

Favorite track

"M.O.B." While not in the vein of Pac's latest stuff, this is a good rap song. It has a very hot chorus and is done flawlessly. While Money over Bitches has been done so many times, I never get tired of hearing Pac do it when he's at his best. This is the half of Pac's legacy that is being dimmed. 2Pac is AT LEAST half thug life, probably more.

Total Tracks: 29

Skipped Tracks: 22

Recommend: Skip It

The fact that this is a very shab CD coupled with the fact that you pay double CD price really kills this one for me. I don't understand why they made this a double CD. Double CD's are either revolutionary or Da Last Don. This one is closer to Da Last Don. Do not listen to it straight through as you drive. You may fall asleep and get in a fiery wreck.
