Still I Rise
2 Pac and The Outlawz

Ratings
1 to 10 Scale 1 is the worst, 10 the best

Perhaps you have heard that one of the things that the 10rc staff really hates is the inclusion of little homies on tracks. Well, the Outlawz are the first little homies. (besides MC Ren, I guess) They are those guys you know well from Pac songs but couldn't pick them out of a lineup. They ruin songs that could have been great they make a good song reg and a reg song bad. Left to their own devices they produce nothing but the most shabby rap. This is the essence of the Outlawz.

After reading that one might suspect that I would completely rip Still I Rise. I can't do it because it's a pretty good CD. There are quite a few good songs on here. "Still I Rise", "Letter to the President", "Secretz of War", and "Killuminati" are all good songs. They all have a good amount of Pac with of course some Outlawz to spoil it. Nonetheless, there are numerous good songs on here.

There is also an extraordinary effort called "Baby Don't Cry"; this is the follow up to the original "Keep Ya Head Up". It's as close to great as Still I Rise comes. It's a really solid and good song with a positive message. It's Pac at his best and is worth a listen. It's also Pac in sappy-mode. Some people don't buy him like this, but I am buying on this particular song. It's got a good message, good lyrics, Pac doing the rapping. It's not a "Changes" but it's a good song.

The real negative to Still I Rise is that there were really not sufficient songs to release it. There is some true trash that Pac would probably be embarrassed made it to wax on Still I Rise. In general, the second half of the CD is complete junk. The second half is a lot of little homies, a little Pac and a load of shit songs.

Of course, we can't fault 2Pac for what people did with all of his leftover tapes. Most of the stuff that comes out today, he probably didn't want us to hear. This is why I won't rip this apart. It's a privilege to be able to hear this stuff at all. Its' problems have nothing to do with 2Pac and everything to do with the Outlawz. Even with the dreaded Outlawz, I still like Still I Rise. There a good songs, one great song, and unfortunately a lot of junk.

Favorite line[s]

"Dear Lord, look how sick this ghetto made us!"

- The good part about this line is the desperate angry voice that Pac says it in. To hear him say it you could really believe that he was face to face with his creator.

Favorite track

"Baby Don't Cry" This is one of the songs in which 2Pac addresses the women who he is mostly courting for a quick fuck. In this song, however, he comes up with a genuinely emotional song that tells a story and makes a point at the same time.

Total Tracks: 15

Skipped Tracks: 7

Recommend: But It

This is probably the last of the good 2Pac. It has everything you would expect a 2Pac album.
