Skits: Enough is Enough

Everyone remembers the time they tuned in to their first rap CD and heard the skits. Whether it was really funny or the fact that you were 13 you still thought they were great. However, as time went on slowly but surely you started skipping over the skits. (unless it was a tape, what a nightmare!) The skit that was once a big knee-slapper eventually turned into a drag on the album.

There are few skits that withstand the test of time with any grace. Most begin somewhat funny and dip as time wears on. I don't know whether this is rap music's way to make you think you're getting more tracks or what but it pisses me off. Every CD seems to be plagued with skits; the majority of them have nothing to do with the songs and are not funny.

As I look at my CD's to pull out a chief offender I can't find any that really are devoid of these lame skits. While the court scene on The Last Meal by Snoop Dogg is priceless and will always remain so for every one of those there is Master P blabbing about God knows what. This Master P crap is on War and Peace Vol 1. Nobody wants to hear 35 seconds of Master P saying, well, nothing.

While a rapper simply talking most times rings up lame the worst offenders really are the characters the rappers seem to invent. Bizzy Bone has a few of these. You can obviously tell it's Bizzy Bone and yet you can really hear that he thinks this voice he has created is completely awesome. This comes into play during the introduction to Resurrection when Bizzy says: "Bone Thugs - them niggaz broke up a long time ago, man." The intro then continues for an ungodly period before the CD gets underway. Bizzy is so notorious that it has become a joke amongst the 10rc staff.

While I'm ripping the Bone Thugs this just in: nobody wants to hear Mr. Ouija. These skits are disturbing at best, boring at worst. They last insanely long and are completely undesirable to listen to. It adds virtually nothing to the CD and just makes me scramble for the remote.

To sum up, I don't want to hear excessive skits. Perhaps rappers think these skits are hilarious or that they can get a career in screenwriting. I am here to say that the skits are shit. 99% of them are completely worthless. 1% are somewhat funny. 0% of the time do I put in a cd in to hear the skits.

Before you email me to tell me the skits are fucking hilarious please ask yourself one question first:

How many skits do you laugh at while you're alone?
