10 Rap Commandments: Mission Statement

At 10 Rap Commandments what we want you to get are many perspectives on the same record. This means that we all are reviewing all records. We review records that we know we don't like and we give all of them an honest chance. Every record gets many honest listens before it gets the hype or the crush. Use the multiple reviews as a guide. Check our favorite artists and try to match which reviewer best suits your style.

This brings me to the real point of the editorial. All of us at 10rc do not like all popular rap artists. This means that we are going to slam some albums that have received critical acclaim. This is a good thing. There is probably not a real rap fan on the face of the planet that likes all widely popular rap music. We offer our perspectives so that you can read a review on a record you've always hated getting the assrape it deserves. We all have these albums that we are so sick of seeing get props when we think they are shit.

Many other rap review sites have a lot more reviews, but they are all by different people. Most people can't get geeked about writing a lot of rap reviews. Sure, it's fun for a while but then you just run out of steam. This is what makes for such a variety on some sites. While it's awesome to have a lot of reviews it waters down the site.

Let me explain. If you have 200 reviews with five from 40 people what you have is everyone trying to hype their favorite artists. I see some sites out there where every album that got a decent public response is ringing up with a 9 or a 10. This is fucking bullshit. I don't like people blowing up their favorite shit just for fun. Sure, I hype my favorites, but I am also accountable. I try to put the albums in perspective. For example, I love Ice Cube, but all of his albums don't get 10's from me. This is me being accountable trying to give you the honest shit on what I see.

The best example of 10rc at work is Tical 2000. This was an album that we all have mixed feelings on. By having the same three cats writing all of the reviews you as the repeated visitor can get a good idea of the personalities and tastes of your humble reviewers. This way, you know the full picture with all of us. You don't have a name of one person who reviewed three albums in the last year (and gave them all 10s) telling you to spend your ducats. So then, if you are patient with us you will see a library of reviews in no time. Three points of view, one record, all records. Hall of Fame records are only the ones that all three varied points of view agree on.

That said, enjoy the site and visit often. We don't run ads, we don't make money on the site, so rest assured we're going to say anything we want without any bullshit.

Great H.
