Here is my top 5, I was disappointed to see none were in your top 5

5)Nas - Nas is like
4) Jurassic five - Concrete Schoolyard
3) B.I.G. - Dead Wrong
2) Wu Tang Clan - triumph
1) 2pac - Changes

I think they should at least be upgraded (examples : Triumph was #34, dead wrong was # 25, Changes was #6 and my other, two werent even on your list)

Just my opinion
Thanks

The list of the Top 5 song are of course, just our opinion. While it's not an interactive feature (IE - we argue it amongst ourselves then post it) your top 5 will appear in the Mail Bag. It's hard to meld the likes and tastes of three people when you do the Top 50 List. Some of my favorites got left out in the cold as well, but that's the nature of the beast. Thanks for checking out the site and for writing in.

Hey man I like bizzy bone a lot and how can I get a copy of Hell'z Movie? I need this CD it seems tight as hell

There are countless variations on the Hell'z Movie LP. Most seem to contain roughly the same tracks. I purchased mine on Ebay for $15. There are also sites that sell these underground type releases, although they can get a bit pricey.

A word of warning - most all the CD's that are being auctioned on Ebay are CD-R's. That is, bootleg copies of the CD. If this phenomenon pisses you off, you should write to the person running the auction and verify what you're buying before you buy it. Since it's technically illegal to auction these on Ebay, most sellers are very reluctant to say if it is a CD-R. Also, check the track list to make sure you're getting one with the most tracks. Hell'z Movie is great for the Bizzy fan flat out. No true fan should be without it.

Thanks for writing in and for checking out the site!

Your review of xzibit's 'restless'brings up some valid points (aren't we all a little tired of hearing what eminem thinks about his fans, ICP, and boy bands); overall though, it seems to indicate that you aren't too familiar with his past work. I can't agree with you that 'X needs to explore himself a little more'- he knows exactly who he is, and I think it's summed up nicely on both of his earlier albums. X has clearly been taken under the wing of Dre's camp, and he is holding back. And for once, I think Dre has done some damage to an artists sound-- 40 dayz and 40 nightz has such a distinct sound that really seemed to mesh with X. This stuff seems to trivialize him, make him sound like more of an actor, a quality that doesn't do him any favors.

I agree with you on the sub-average quality of the album, just not the reasoning behind it. It seems clear to me that the 'dysfunctional member of the alkaholik family tree' is holding back in fear of alienating himself from a larger fan base. It's too bad-- he's following the k.i.s.s. tactic : Keep It Simple Stupid.

Xzibit, and tha alkaholiks (or whatever they are calling themselves this time out) seemed to stand out because they were successfully able to merge not just east and west coast beats, but combining the style of west coast, with some of the loftier types of east coast lyrical substance. It's a shame, cause Xzibit obviously doesn't need to convince any body that he's a 'hard core rapper', but he does so anyway, at the expense of being a good rapper. In fact, he seems to do his best with KRS-one looking over his shoulder; I guess any rapper would be nervous about quality content with that guy lurking around.

Anyway, you guys have a good site, and I dig a lot of your reviews. It's nice.

P.S. 'Restless'' testimonial intro track is quite possibly the lamest thing I've ever heard.

First off thanks for writing in and the positive comments!

Now, to my response:

While I plead guilty to not having heard the previous albums, those can't play a role in the review of Restless. (I will eventually get to them as I move through The Abbot's 'CD graveyard' [ed note: half of The Abbots CD collection is on loan to him]). Each album must be viewed in a completely independent light. When you get into comparison and pulling stuff out of past work it can cloud the issue a bit. That said, I do treat Xzbit like brand new artist in the review and this is probably a mistake.

Not being a big Xzibit fan, I can't say one way or another whether Dre has damaged him. I will say that he does appear to be trying too hard. He seems like the little brother along for the ride. He's saying the same things but you kind of cringe a bit when he does, because he's doing something wrong. I don't know what it is, maybe he appears to be a little too excited about hanging out with Snoop and Dre.

You bring up interesting points and I look forward to checking out the other Xzibit albums. Thanks again for writing, and for visiting the site.

Also, is anyone else sick of the stupid spellings of words rappers come up with? Is there something really thuggish and ruggish about illiteracy or what? It's hard to convince someone that a rapper calling himself an 'alkaholic', a 'ryder', or 'Krayzie' is a serious artist. Why not just break down and spell the words right, would that be giving in to the man or what?

From Javier Moreno

Hello,
Recently I was browsing through websites, reading up on my new favorite album, Until The End of Time, by the greatest rapper of all time, 2pac.

Coming upon your recent review, I have one thing to tell you: you are a fucking idiot. Actually I do not know who to blame here: YOU for not knowing what you are talking about and thinking you do, or your Employer for letting a moron like you give an opinion on something you know shit about.

I guess you have listened to the album, probably only once though. If you had indeed paid attention to the lyrics and really gotten them, you sure would have liked more than seven of the tracks. I myself like all of them, and many other real rap lovers will agree. Perhaps you should put more research and effort into your reviews. As you stated, "In one particularly funny incident 2Pac demands that BIG be sent to the Jenny Craig fat farm." Okay, you stupid motherfucker had you known what you were talking about, or even listened to the song, your uneducated (I'm guesing white) ass would know that Pac was NOT talking to Biggie Smalls, but Wendy Williams. Wendy Williams is a female, thus the line "...I know your pussy stinks..."

Also, you try to criticize the new album and 2pac himself "for stealing hits from the 80's like Puffy." Okay, here again you prove yourself to be an idiot. This album was made AFTER 2pac's tragic death, not before. 2pac did not have any input on the production or beats. He is dead. Think about it. As your posted "favorite line" you even fucked that up. You tried to quote a line from "Until The End of Time" but fucked that up too. Get a clue. And as for the "Afeni Shakur being back on crack" remark, I won't even go there. If you are going to talk shit, at least post your picture and name, you bitch ass. I will be reading your future reviews to see if you take my advice. Get a clue, educate yourself, and actually know what you're talking about before you speak on something you are supposedly an "expert" on. Go ahead and review whatever else you want, but know that your words mean shit.

Another very similar message from FB2boy

I think your reviews fucking suck. Tupac's new album until the end of time is off the fucking hook and you dissing pac all because u dont understand his shit. Just tell everyone that your to fucking stupid to understand it dont diss it. Pac is the greatest rapper ever and you listen to any of his music you should know his lyrics are the realist ever wrote. He is the realest rapper there will ever be know one can ever reach the level pac was at. Oh yeah he aint dead neither.

On one hand, I'll admit that you caught me in ignoranceville. That was a flat out dumb move that I knew would come back on me. [ed. note: He is referring to the quotation that sited 2Pac sending BIG to Jenny Craig and not Wendy Williams] I made a guess and came up wrong. I'll change the review and credit you. I'll give credit where it's due and you got me. [ed. note: see the review for the corrections and the credit given to Mr. Moreno] Then, there's the other hand. I think this 2Pac cult is out of control. I can tell you are not capable of judging a Pac record without bias because of your fanatical devotion to this clearly mediocre record and your "troublesome" email address. While 2Pac was a great rapper, one of the tops, he was human. 2Pac songs are not all good. This is a fact that we are all going to have to deal with. When you say you like all the songs you are lying. Are you telling me you just slip this in and let it fly? Come on! Nobody does that. There are about 4 CD's in the world you can do that with, and this doesn't come close! This CD is closer to 2Pac with Outlawz than it is to 2Pacalypse Now or All Eyez on Me. I am not a huge 2Pac fan, and I'm sorry that brings you to racist and unreasonable levels. Perhaps I mistyped the quote, but it was taken from the CD jacket where it's quoted. I don't care about these small mistakes. They don't detract from the meaning and they're actually all over the site if you look closely. Since we are all full time students with part time jobs, the site is clearly secondary. While it's not terribly professional to have mistakes, we're working on it. Let me know when your site comes online and I'll come check it out.

I stand by my remarks about this merciless milking of 2pac. By using recycled stuff (Breathin appears on Bizzy Bone's Hell'z Movie) and wringing every last scrap of 2pac out of the archives his legacy is being dimmed. For every fanatic like you, there are 10 normal rap fans that think the CD is average. I don't rightly know whether it's Afeni Shakur or Death Row who is milking the legacy, but someone is doing it. In addition, while you try and call me out for not 'feeling' his lyrics I gave him high marks for lyrics.

I take your point about the "hits from the 80s". I know he's dead. I know he had no role, but I have to wonder why they can't make a chorus for the songs. I don't know one way or another whether he did the hits from the 80s or not. All I know is that it is getting tiresome. In the end, I have to rate whether I like what the artist is doing. If albums are being put out under his name, someone has to be to blame for 3rd rate songs. Unfortunately, the songs as a whole just don't do it for me. Ultimately, that's what our site is about. I love it that you disagree with me. I like that you called me out on the mistake. I deserved it, flat out. That was a ridiculous move on my part. However, my opinion on this painfully long 2Pac effort is that it was not a blockbuster album. Five is an average score.

I'm glad you'll be coming back to the site, and I'm glad that our homemade site [ed. note: we are a notfor profit site] made you think I had an employer. Please keep the feedback coming. Perhaps you might want to read my 2Pac and Outlawz review and see what you think of that. I will be writing an editorial very soon about the "brilliance" of 2Pac. Lately, I have stepped into some old school classic rap and am seriously reevaluating what meaningful rap is. People really seem focused on the 2 out of 15 songs 2Pac does that are positive. Most of his songs may as well be No Limit Records, because he's just being a hardass. The only difference is that he does it a little better.

Anyway, Have a good day - and take some advice:

(1) don't take everyone on the web for experts
(2) don't take everything so seriously.

A couple of messages from Mutny

I'd just like to know how you can diss this album so relentlessly. Ok, so it's not as good as '36 Chambers' but its definitely the best cut by the Wu since. And another thing, how can you rate 'Release Yo' Delf' over 'Bring the Pain'? Answer me that!

Sorry to bother you again but your reviews are really starting to get me pissed. Nas's first album is blatantly one of the finest albums ever made. The melting pot of production styles and sheer exuberance of Nas on the mic just shows how poor his recent work is. From 'Halftime' and 'NY State of Mind' to 'It Aint Hard to Tell' the production is second to none. The producers on this album are practically a 'Dream Team' with the likes of DJ Premier, Large Professor, Pete Rock and Q-Tip. I'd love to hear what you have to say in defense of your review.

First off I would like to thank you for taking the time to visit our site and for taking the time to think about our point of view. We appreciate that.

As for Tical, I really don't like Method Man as a rapper. He is sloppy and if you pay attention well enough you will find that he doesn't flow with his beats. I just felt, like I did with illmatic that the overall sound is very drab and dull. He also has zero meaningful lines in the entire album, which in my opinion restricts the album from being legendary.

As for Illmatic, it too is dull, and boring. Nas is not a great rapper, he just has great lyrical talent. But I didn't find to many lines that were mind-blowing brilliant. The beats are simple and there few meaningful lyrics, and these are big selling points for me. It also should be noted that I'm not a huge fan of the New York sound, I feel its dumbed down, unimaginative, and Tical and Illmatic are two perfect examples of that.

That's just my opinion and thanks for giving us yours. [ed note: See Above for further explination by SJ]

I liked your review on Born Again by Biggie. Well done. And as for "Dead Wrong" as one of your all time faves, it goes for me too. The lyrics were so tight, tough and brilliant.

I really like Eminems verse it was him at his best if I say so myself.

Thanks for the kind words and for writing in. Here's another portion I love from Dead Wrong:

"Beat you to a seizure
then fuck your moms, hit the skins to amnesia.
She don't remember shit,
just the 2 hits.
Her hittin the floor, me hittin the clits!
Suckin' on the tits,
got the hooker beggin for the dick!"

Biggie really plays to his strength here - morally disturbing criminal acts. Jesus, lay off the Notorious.

Thanks for writing, keep checking for us at 10rc - we're just getting this started.

Great H.
