From S-Class
Obviously you have
no clue about rap music. Your reviews focus almost exclusively
on commercial artists, and your incredible amount of attention
given to second rate fad-group have beens like Bone Thugs and
"Bizzy Bone"is quite amusing. Why don't you get out
there and try to hear some hot shit a little more often(Jadakiss,
Beanie Sigel, Fabulous). With all the exciting new rappers and
mixtapes out there, your site gives them no run. But getting to
the real point of this e-mail...Jay-Z. Jay-Z is the don of the
entire rap game. You can be like all the other psuedo-rap affecianados
and hate on Jay-Z because he sells records, but you sound like
a fucking idiot when you suggest that he has no rapping skills.
Jay-Z is the premier lyricist out there and you would have trouble
finding anyone in the rap game to disagree. He has spit with the
best of them and he always stands out. Go borrow Reasonable Doubt
from a real rap fan and let the greatest rap album ever smack
some sense into you.

It sounds ridiculous,
doesnt it? Basically, I dont like Jay-Z. I think your slamming on
Bone Thugs is just about as 'krayzie' as you think my disdain for
Jay-Z is. I could give you all the reaons I don't like Jay-Z, but
it wouldnt matter, I already have in the review. I also agree wholeheartedly
that there are a lot of hot new rappers (Ludacris, Shyne) but I
won't run you down for telling me Jadakiss is the man. I don't have
a lot of inclination to respond to this type of emotional jargon.
I'm glad you're from New York and you're representing your coast,
but not everyone likes Jay-Z.
Also - Bone Thugs are
bar none the most talented rappers to ever hit wax. I could do a
pretty good Jay-Z impersonation, but I'd like to hear you flow like
my man Bizzy. We get at least an email a day asking us how to get
unreleased Bone CD's, and only three so far complaining about the
harsh slam I gave Jay-Z. I bet many people read that review and
think 'right on'.
Thanks for checking out
the site.

From Salman
I kno u dont need
me to tell u this, (as uve prolly heard before) but your review
for Nas- Illmatic was the worst review i have ever read in my
life.I can see how you are more West Coast oriented but callin
Nas overrated and illmatic horrible is just plain dumb. Illmatic
is one of the top 3 hip hop albums of all time. Saying it has
no big hits is fucking crazy. What the fuck is your definition
of a big hit? If a hit is a commercialized song played all over
the radio with a high budget video on MTV, then Illmatic was not
a big Hit. If your definition of a hit is a great song with good
lyrics and a tight beat, then Illmatic is a fucking homerun. I
wonder, ya'll claim to be a hip hop site but you kno nothing about
rap. Plainly, your site sucks ass and all of you are pretty much
dumb. O well, its not like i would take your ratings seriously
ne way tho, coming from a fucking site which has "Get Your
Roll On" and "Slipping" as 2 of the top 50 of all
time, yet does not have It ain't hard to tell, NY State of Mind,
or One Love; all which should be in the top 20 of all time. I
see how your site is more commercial hip hop oriented, so i can
understand how you would call Illmatic boring. Your site has no
hip hop credibility and therefore, it sucks. I don't know if u
smoke or not but you mustve been on crack when you wrote that
review. How the fuck do u give DMX's first album a higher rating
than Illmatic? How the fuck does Juvenile- 400 Degreez get a better
rating that Illmatic? Go ask Juvenile and DMX and they'll personally
tell you they aint fucking wit Illmatic in any way shape or form.
In ya Enter the 36 Chambers review, u said it had 7 skipped songs
out of 12 (thats more than half for those of us who kno math)
yet you still said buy it. Now I'm not a genius but, if someone
told me that i would skip through more than half of the songs
on an album, i wouldnt be too thrilled about going out and buying
it. This proves that your site is fucking dumb. What makes me
mad about your shitty ass site is that you spread false info.
You claim that albums like Only built for cuban linx, Stankonia,
Illmatic, It takes a nation of millions, and Heavy Mental are
not worth buying but u give Vanilla Ice Classic Album status......c'mon
now, Vanilla Fucking Ice, a man with no respect, no lyricism,
no flow, no mic precense (i apologize if i'm using aspects of
rap which you are unfamiliar with). Just out of curiosity when
did u start listening to hip-hop, 3 years ago? Nas flowed to every
beat perfectly in Illmatic. He had great producers like DJ Premier
(do you know who that is?) to create amazing tracks like NY State
of Mind. Whatever, its all good tho, its just interesting to see
someone call Illmatic boring and dull. Hit me back wit responses
or whatever if u feel like it. I understand that your definition
of a great album means having TRL time and going Diamond in record
sales, but hit me back toexplain it all.
Basically, it's like this - you make some valid points but you fail
to consider different reviewers perspectives. If you are going to
slam Sloppy Joe's review of Illmatic,
you can only line that up with Sloppy
Joe reviews. Each person is different and each perspective is
different.
Honestly, whether "Get
Your Roll On" has any real value at all simply does not
matter. While it may make us all feel better about rap music when
there is some meaning behind it, a song like "Get Your Roll
On" is simply enjoyable to listen to.
Your remarks about Illmatic
will be forwarded to Sloppy Joe. Although I would point out that
2 more revierwers have not reviewed it yet. A last point is that
I am not into name dropping or hip hop vocabulary. While it might
make you seem like an authority, the web site is about what three
dudes think of the music. If one has greast 'mic presence' on a
track and I find it lame (for whatever reason) I will still rate
that song low. My definition of a good record is one that I like
to listen to. There are a
few categories:
(1) Conscious, example:
Ice Cube, Killah Priest
These albums I find interesting
because they reference Black History and have new takes on old problems.
These abums make the listener want to learn more, and make strong
statements about the past present and future.
(2) Flat out good rap
music. example: Snoop, Bone, Wu-Tang.
While there may be some
crossover into conscious here, most times there isn't. When Wu-Tang
claims it ain't nuthin to fuck wit, that isn't very valuable, but
it makes for a great song. "Nuthin' but a G Thing"
has no intrinsic value, but I am drawn to it's great assembly and
wonderful lyrics.
(3) Funny example: Vanilla
Ice, Cash Money Millionaires
These artists create
music that is funny to lsiten to. It is not about making a statement,
and it surely doesnt. When you start a verse off with "Big
dicks we slang" that's not too interesting or valuable,
but it is funny. Platinum football fields, havin' a roni, and Ice
Ice Baby are all songs that can't be denied. If you are really insecure
and have to paint yourself as a rap afficianado you simply can't
enjoy these songs. However, if you take them for what they are you
can enjoy them and see what the artist is trying to do: nothing.
Finally,
you call Sloppy Joe out on the Wu-Tang review. The album got
two other 10's; so it really is just an anomaly. one reviewer cant
control what another does.
Great H.
Please
try and check which reviewer wrote what you are reading when writing
in. Half of this e-mail was addressed to the wrong person.

From GotRicePride99
man most of the
time your reviews are jsut horrible, you dont know what you are
talking about. Everybody can have different views on subjects,
but man how can you give jigga such a bad review for the dynasty.
That album has
top quaility production and jay flows on that. I dont feel what
you are saying on your reviews and i am postively sure that anybody
else who reads it is not gonna feel it. Man lets be real, review
the cd from a neutral prespective and stop writting crap reviews.
I put the CD in, I listened to many horrible Jigga tracks. I repeated
the process. I listened to and evaluated all of the tracks. I hate
the record. I hate the jigga. His rapping is sub-par, and the man
has nothing to say. I give him shreds of credit for innovation in
rap music, going places with beats people haven't gone before; but
in my view he fails on most accounts. I would love for you point
out where Jay-Z flows; Jay-Z's sad drawl makes me cringe every time
I hear it. I stand firmly beside my Jay-Z review and do not back
off one bit. In fact, I wish I could lower the album's score.
Perhaps everyone doesn't
disagree because this is the first email I've gotten about that
review.
Great H.
