10 Rap Commandments: Mission Statement Part II

I wanted to expand upon what The Great Hart has already laid down in our Mission Statement. So here is a little more explanation of what we are all about. Many of of visitors have come away with some different impressions of what we are trying to do with this site, and I just wanted to clear things up.....Continue

Rap Reviews: How to Do It Wrong

The other day I was checking out some reviews of albums from people who are 'closer' to the industry. These people piss me off with their bullshit mumbo jumbo. When I check out reviews I want to know if you thought the cd was good or not, what qualities about it you thought were good, and what tracks you liked and why. This is basic stuff to me, maybe it's not as clear to someone with a degree in journalism.....Continue

10 Rap Commandments: Mission Statement

At 10 Rap Commandments what we want you to get are many perspectives on the same record. This means that we all are reviewing all records. We review records that we know we don't like and we give all of them an honest chance. Every record gets many honest listens before it gets the hype or the crush. Use the multiple reviews as a guide. Check our favorite artists and try to match which reviewer best suits your style....Continue

How I Review by Sloppy Joe

Well to round off the 10 rap commandments trio I too will give you a glimpse of what it is I look for in a rap song and album. I can easily sum up my tastes in one word, picky. In fact it would probably be true to say that I do not like 70% of the rap music that has ever been made. My love affair with rap music started back in the early 90's and that is where it will most likely always stay. I do not necessarily dislike newer efforts or newer artist, not at all. Rather I believe that there was a standard set in this great era of music that will never be duplicated....Continue

How I Review by The Great Hart

After the Abbot wrote his criteria, I felt obligated to let the legions of 10rc fans know what criteria I use to review albums. I read what the Abbot had to say about rap music in general and I couldn't disagree more. The first thing I hear when I turn on a rap is the words. I love the words. I analyze every line in every song I listen to. I see rap music (in general) as a possible legitimate expression of black people about topics that affect to them...... Continue

How I Review by The Abbot

I would like to explain a few things about my musical preferences and what influences me the most. Hopefully you can get an idea of what I like and how I decide what is good and bad. First left me explain that a general idea of my musical tastes (including the impression of the rest of the 10rc staff) is that I like everything. While I do like most rappers, and albums there are things that I do and do not like..... Continue

Skits: Enough is Enough By The Great Hart

Everyone remembers the time they tuned in to their first rap CD and heard the skits. Whether it was really funny or the fact that you were 13 you still thought they were great. However, as time went on slowly but surely you started skipping over the skits. (Unless it was a tape, what a nightmare!) The skit that was once a big knee-slapper eventually turned into a drag on the album.... Continue
