To those of us drowning in paperwork, decades-old
predictions of the "paperless office" produce little more
than weak smiles. One unit on campus, however, is embracing the
electronic future.
The number of printed and distributed copies of
the Position Vacancy Notice will be drastically reduced effective
June 7, according to a memo from Kris Hynes, Director of Human
Resource Services. The Position Vacancy Notice is the weekly listing
of MSU positions that departments—until now—have been
responsible for posting.
According to Hynes, alternate ways exist to get
information about postings. The web site at http://www.hr.msu.edu/Depts/Emp/postings.asp
currently receives about 24,000 visitors a month. The Computerized
Human Resources Information Service (CHRIS), which can be accessed
by calling 353-3720, contains a full description of positions and
processes three-quarters of on-campus bids for positions.
Both the computer and telephone service are available 24 hours a
day, seven days a week.
