Some Cool Spots to go to in Michigan

Well, I figured since i'm from the great state that I should talk about its natural wonders. Unfortanately, most of my camping has been done outside of the statew so for now the list is sort of short. Hopefully overtime it will grow some. But for now these are the places i'd recommend you to go visit:

Isle Royale National Park

Isle Royale is the largest forested area in Lake Superior. It has incredible wildlife, not to mention it's a sactuary for wolves and moose. You can only get there by boat, but ince your there there is great hiking areas. There is about 166 miles of foottrail for your hiking pleasure. It's recommended not to go off trail there. No bushwacking. You can take large hikes that go arouund 4 to 6 days. These range from 30 to 40 miles. You can take a shorter trip of 2 to 3 days, which are usually around 10 to 13 miles. Or, you can take a quick overnight hike of about 5 miles or so. 95% of thhis land is designated to be a wilderness area. It's defientely a site to see.

Pictured Rocks

The Pictured Rocks are located right inbetween Munising and Grand Marais, Michigan. This is one area of Michigan that you should defiently visit once in your life. The rock formations are incredible and worth the trip. For hiking you can either take it more casually and go the dayhike route. Or you can take the lakeshore backcountry trail of 42 miles and try yourself out on your backpack skills.

Porcupine Mountains State Park

These are located in the western end of Northern Michigan. That's just right west of Ontonaga. The Porcupine Mountains has unbelievable sites with marked trails so you travel along and see them all. It's a wilderness area so it is kind of rugged. There's over 90 miles of trail for hiking. Here are a few of your options for trails. Theres the Lake Superior Trail which happens to be the longest trail around the area. The trail is only about 16 miles but it's very challenging. Another great trail would be the Little Carp River Trail, this trail is the most scenic so it will always keep you on your toes. There are many other trails to choose from in the Porcupine Mountains. They range from more challenging hikes to quick afternoon wilderness walks of about 1 mile. I suggest you just try as many trails as you can. How else will you know which one you like the best.

Sleeping Bear Dunes

The dunes have outstanding natural features. Forests, beaches, and dune formations are among the sites. There is around 55 miles of marked hiking trails. You can either go more modern and take day hikes and stay in nicer parks. Or you can go a little emore primitive and go more rugged going the backpacking way.

Well since I haven't been all that many places in Michigan I thought i'd also share with you some great canoeing areas. Michigan has many great water bodies and you should defiently take advantage of that natural feature.

Ausable River

This has become my favorite canoeing spot in Michigan. It might be because i've been there well over a dozen times. This is a great place for canoeing or fishing. There are many drop off/pick up points that you can make your trip as short or long as you see fit. If you choose a longer trip expecta portage to be in your future. m There are several dams along the river. There's not to much hiking but you can find a few trail along the river.

Manistee River

This is a more relaxed river. It's pretty calm without so many turns and twists in the river bed. It's wide and deep to make for smooth canoeing. Its an ideal spot for families.

The Pine River

This river is a little bit more challenging. There are sections of the river which are white water which makes it inappropriate for inexperienced canoers. But if you have experience and are up for more of a challenge it's a great place to challenge your skills. Both this and the Manistee connect from Cadillac,Michigan. There are some hiking trails around Cadillac. They are pretty flat and are great for dayhikes or weekend trips. They range from 10n to 30 miles.

Well I hope that this site gave you more of a feel for Michigan. It's a great spot fo rnatural beauty. Yes, Michigan ther feeling's for ever. (that was an old Michigan promotion song)So, say yes to Michigan.
