Federal Minimum Wage Increases.

Currently, the federal minimum wage is $5.85 per hour.

·        Beginning July 24, 2008, the federal minimum wage will be $6.55.

·        Beginning July 24, 2009, the federal minimum wage will be $7.25.

When the federal and the Michigan minimum wage differ, employers typically have to pay the higher wage.  Because the minimum wage in Michigan is and will be higher for most workers, farmers in Michigan will have to pay the higher Michigan minimum wage in most cases.  In those few cases when the application of the federal minimum wage will lead to a higher rate, it needs to be paid.
