Runs under Classic
Since the appearance of Microsoft Word 98, Word has changed the file type
of its RTF files from TEXT to RTF. Because
of this, Jonathan Mead's Renumber program does not recognise the new RTF
files. This
folder contains a simple Drag and Drop utility to change a Word RTF file
into
the type that Renumber can recognise.
To use it, simply drag one or more Word RTF files onto the converter and
it will
convert each of the files. Since this is a drag and drop utility, I
recommend putting
it (or an alias to it) on the desktop where you can drag things onto it
easily.
The program ends with a dialogue box that tells you that whether it
converted the
file.
Remember: The converter does not convert a regular Word file into an RTF
file. You
must use the Save As command inside Word to do this. Once you have done
this, use
the converter before opening the RTF file with Renumber.
Although the converter works fine under Classic in OS X, a simple solution (which I currently use) is the very useful xFiles utility ($20.00 shareware, and well worth it). It allows one to change all sorts of file attributes in an easy to use interface. Just drag your RTF file onto an xFiles window and change the file type to TEXT. xFiles is available here: xFiles
