President's Report
A number of emails that had been received by Association members were read to the Board. A variety of sentiments were expressed which included concerns for trying to select a new date yet this season for the Reunion, the possibility of participating in the Homecoming Parade as a replacement for the Reunion, the idea of taking the Registration Fees and contributing them to the Red Cross or other relief agency in light of the tragedy on September 11, 2001, etc.
John Madden shared that the Athletic Department was going to attempt to reschedule the Missouri game for December 1, 2001. He also suggested that it would be possible for the Alumni Band to participate in the Indiana game on November 10, 2001.
It became apparent that there were four possible courses of action that the Board might consider:
Doug Goodrich reported that a total $1870.00 had been collected in Registration Fees for the Reunion (389 Registrants) and $1338.00 had been collected for box lunches (223 box lunches).
It was decided that the Alumni Band Reunion would be rescheduled for the November 10, 2001 game with Indiana. Though it would be awhile before a definite starting time would be announced, it would be important to publish a starting time as soon as possible. With that in mind it was decided to adher to the same starting time as had been planned for the September 15, 2001 Reunion - 8:00 am.
After considerable discussion the Board made decisions through a series of motions:
Motion - There should not be an additional registration fee for those attending the rescheduled Reunion who had previously registered and paid a registration fee. Seconded and Approved.
Motion - Box lunches will again be available for purchase. The registration form will be created in such a way to allow someone who had previously ordered a box lunch(es) to get one at the November 10, 2001 Reunion at no additional cost; or, for someone not able to attend the rescheduled Reunion, he/she will be able to elect to contribute the Box Lunch money to the Alumni Band or have it reimbursed. Seconded and Approved.
Motion - A Registration Fee will again be charged. The registration form will be created in such a way to allow someone who had previously paid a Registration Fee to have it applied to the November 10, 2001 Reunion; or, for someone not able to attend the rescheduled Reunion, he/she will be able to elect to contribute the Registration Fee to the Alumni Band or have it reimbursed. Seconded and Approved.
It was decided that the deadline for all registrations for the Rescheduled Alumni Band Reunion would be October 12, 2001.
In addition, a number of other items were discussed and agreed upon:
The November 10 band show will be a Special Patriotic Tribute.
Guest conductor for the November 10 band show will be Col. (Ret) Arnald Gabriel, Former Conductor/Commander of the U S Air Force Band.
The Golf Outing will be rescheduled for September 21, 2001.
Joe Levine will again be inviting MSU Administrators to welcome the Alumni Band at the November 10, 2001 Reunion.
The publication of the Encore will be delayed until after the rescheduled Reunion to allow coverage of that event. If all goes well it will be in the mail by December 1, 2001.
Meeting adjourned - 12:56 pm
