Old Business
Update on Building - John Whitwell said it is moving along and they are working on getting some major funding to get the fund raising campaign started. Demonstration Hall renovation will be a part of the campaign.

Update on music commission - John Whitwell has talked to the composer, Timothy Mahr, and the composition is nearing completion. Hopefully, the premier playing of the composition can be at the Alumni Band spring concert in Spring of 1999.
Report on Alumni Touring Group - Henry Nelson has received the correspondence from Bob Rice that contained the information that was discussed and passed at the last board meeting (relationship of the touring group to the Alumni Band Board, etc.). Henry indicated his verbal approval and will send a letter to Bob Rice for the record. With Henry's acceptance, Bob Rice informed the treasurer, Doug Goodrich, to send the approved money ($750) to the Alumni Touring Group.
	Other -
One table used at the Fall Alumni Band reunion remains lost and we will have to reimburse the rental agency for that. Motion made and passed to pay the requested $175
Gordon Spink reported that he had met with the MSU Alumni Association and they are willing to put Alumni Band information in the next Alumni Magazine. There is a June 1st deadline for the Fall issue.
Spink also reported that the MSU Alumni Association would be willing to give us membership information that we can include in mailings and/or have at the Spring and Fall reunions. Spink will follow-up on this for the Spring Reunion

New Business
Scandinavian Tour - Henry Nelson reported that they are still in need of trombones. If any one knows of possible players let him know. Other plans are being finalized.
Spring Newsletter - The Spring Newsletter has been mailed and people were pleased with the publication.
Spring Reunion - The mailing on that event is in the mail. Details of the day were reviewed. Board members were asked to be there at 8:00 am to help set things up.
Fall Reunion - John Madden reported that it is very likely that another football game will be scheduled for Aug. 29 (possibly Oklahoma State) and that it would help him and the Spartan Band if the Alumni Band reunion was on that date. The Central Michigan game was not a good date because they are bringing their band. The other option would be Indiana University on Homecoming Day. There was discussion and the group felt that Aug. 29th would be okay, particularly if it would help John Madden and the Spartan Marching band. With that date, it was very likely that we could again get seats up in the Stadium. John will let us know as soon as possible. (If that is the date, we will need to do an early mailing - possibly before June 1st.
	Other -
Beryl Falcone reported that a new computer desk is needed for the Alumni Band office. Motion made and approved that she is authorized to buy the needed furniture.

John Madden reported on the recent trip of the Pep Band to Hartford, Conn. He indicated that the band was treated very well by the University and that the band members were included in the game events and that there was a good feeling between the team, Tom Izzo and the Pep Band. Members of the Board mentioned how well the Pep Band was heard on television and John was commended on how well and how often the band was heard.
Next Meeting - The date for the next meeting of the Board has been set for May 3, 1998 (2:00 pm, Buddies in Okemos).
Meeting was adjourned.
