Secretary's Report
1999 Fall Reunion - September 11, 1999 - Beryl reported that replies are beginning to come in. It is still too early to tell exactly how many will be at the Fall Reunion.
Joe will again be inviting the following people to speak at the Fall Reunion - Peter McPherson, Keith Williams, Nick Saban, Clarence Underwood, & Jim Forger.
Gordon will be contacting John Madden regarding the various arrangements for the Fall Reunion (rehearsal location, tables, PA system, parking passes, etc.)
Beryl will again be working with Karen DeFord to make the necessary food arrangemnts for the Reunion.
Since the exact details weren't available, the following are tentative starting times for the Fall Reunion:
Thank you cards have been received from the Alumni Association and from Mrs. Walter Adams and were circulated. These cards acknowledged the $100 that was donated by the MSU Alumni Band in the name of Dr. Adams.
The new Block S pins
have arrived. 100 have been created as pendants and 400 have been created as pins. They will be distributed free to new members of the Association.
Survey Data were described by Bill regarding how to involve additional members in the operations of the Association. Bill will be compiling a list of individual names and what types of things they can do to assist the Association.
A WebSite Update was provided by Joe. There are currently over 50 members who have emailed their information for including on the website. Joe will be preparing a handout for participants at the Fall Reunion to update them on the website and encourage them to visit the site. Gary will be taking over/maintaining the Alumni Comments page and the Email Addresses of Members page of the website.
Alumni European Tour was described by Henry. There are already 30 people signed up for the tour that is still a year away! Henry suggested that it wasn't worthwhile doing a large mailing since other avenues were being covered well (Encore, website, presentations at the Reunions, word-of-mouth, etc.). It appears that there will be trouble in filling the ranks for the tour.
The latest Spartan Band Fan brochure was discussed. Some concerns were shared that there might be confusion between the Spartan Band Fan initiative and the MSU Alumni Band Association. Most felt that if there was confusion it would probably be very minor. The new Bandfan brochure was hailed as attractive and very well done.
Band Directors - The absence of the Band Directors from the meeting was noted. Their presence is really critical to the effective conducting of the business of the Association and efforts will be made to keep them well posted and to encourage their active participation in the meetings of the Board. Especially important are the Board meetings immediately preceeding the Spring and the Fall Reunion.
Next Meeting - The date for the next meeting of the Board has been set for October 3, 1999 (2:00 pm, Buddies in Okemos).
Meeting was adjourned at 4:00 pm.
