THE MSU AIDS EDUCATION AND TRAINING CENTER’s primary focus is the education and resourcing of health care providers and students about all aspects of care for people with or at risk for HIV/AIDS, including prevention best practices, mental health, psychosocial, and neuropsychiatric issues.
The Center’s education, training, technical assistance and information dissemination activities occur with Michigan State University, other educational settings (domestic and international), and in communities throughout Michigan. With the collaboration of faculty from several of MSU’s professional colleges and schools, the Center’s staff works to broker MSU expertise, provide state of the art curricula, and disseminate state of the art care and prevention information. The Center provides a major channel for international and domestic outreach on HIV/AIDS, one of the defining public health issues of our era. The Center and staff also serve University faculty and research associates by providing HIV/AIDS expertise to multidisciplinary research, including collaboration on grant applications.
Center efforts are supported by a cyber and hard-copy Resource Library. The Library makes information about a wide variety of subjects concerning HIV/AIDS available to health educators, students, and the public. Materials cover topics such as mental health, psychosocial issues, epidemiology, drug therapies, pediatrics, women, racial and ethnic minorities, and legal issues. The library includes books, professional articles, curricula, bibliographies, pamphlets and videotapes. The Center also plays host to a number of satellite and teleconferences from such sources as the Center for Disease Control and Prevention and Albany Medical College, as well as webcasting of major HIV/AIDS conferences from the US, Canada and abroad.
