Department of Philosophy

Matthew W. McKeon

Associate Professor

Degree:

Ph.D., University of Connecticut

Teaching Areas:

Philosophy of Logic, Symbolic Logic, Metaphysics, Epistemology

Interests:

Professor McKeon's research is primarily in philosophical logic.  Three related areas of interest are the concept of logical consequence, the relationship between metaphysics and logic, and the epistemic status of the determination of the logical consequence relation.  McKeon's current work is on the conceptual underpinnings of the model-theoretic characterization of logical consequence in classical first-order logic and in modal first-order logic.  He is particularly interested in the nature and extent of the metaphysical assumptions required in order to characterize these two logical consequence relations.
