Stan
Soffin joined the faculty of the MSU School of Journalism in 1968 and
served as director of the school from 1982 to 1998, when he was named
University Ombudsman. He
introduced several new programs to the J-school, including the endowed
chair
in environmental journalism. Professor Soffin's research interest
includes
fairness and balance in reporting controversial issues. He earned an
undergraduate
degree at the University of Michigan and a Master of Arts degree and
Ph.D.
at MSU. In 2002 he was elected to a two-year term on the Board of
Directors of the University and College Ombuds Association. |

Sandy
Harley has been affiliated with
the Office of the Ombudsman since 1999. She has held various administrative positions in institutions of higher education for more than 25 years, serving as an academic dean, accreditation specialist, adjunct faculty, evaluation specialist, assistant librarian and director of small business development. Her research interests include innovations and change strategies for universities and colleges. She earned an undergraduate degree in Psychology from Southwestern University; a Master of Labor and Industrial Relations, and a Ph.D. in Higher, Adult and Lifelong Education from MSU. |

Julie
Peters, the office manager, has
completed her
38th year of service to MSU, the past 21 as secretary to the University
Ombudsman. Her many responsibilities include maintaining the office Web
site, scheduling appointments and answering general questions about
university procedures and
policy.
Ms. Peters' previous positions at MSU include working in the Accounting Department and in the University Catalog and Curriculum office. |
