Materials Reproduction Services

Materials in the Michigan State University Archives and Historical Collections can be reproduced for you by photocopy, digital scanning, or photographic methods by the UAHC staff.

The current fee for photocopying is 20 cents per page copied. Requests are processed in the order in which they came in. While the Archives does its best to provide prompt service in this area, larger photocopy orders may take a longer time to complete, depending upon the size of the order, number of orders received prior to the order, and/or the availability of staff to fill the orders.

Copy prints or slides may be requested at a price determined by the size, number, and format of the reproduction. If no negative exists, or if the negative is on either a glass plate or nitrate film, the researcher must pay the costs of preparing a copy negative of archival quality which become the property of the Archives. This cost is in addition to the cost of the print or slide.

Materials up to 8.5 by 12 inches can be digitally scanned in most formats and sizes at a cost of $5 per scan. The file will be placed on CD unless otherwise requested.

In some cases, the Archives may refuse to allow copies to be made because of the physical condition of the materials, restrictions imposed by the donor, copyright law, or right-to-privacy statutes.

Reproductions are made solely for the personal use of the individual requesting them. They may not be transferred to another individual or organization, deposited at another institution, or reduplicated without prior permission of the University Archives and Historical Collections. Reproduction in no way transfers either copyright or property rights, nor does it constitute permission to publish or display.

Any questions concerning these services, including current reproduction rates, should be directed to the Reference Archivist and can be done via the Archives e-mail.
