Dr. Gale Strasburg, Professor and Chairperson of the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition.

Greetings:

I wish to welcome you to browse our departmental home page and explore our diverse programs. Our department has a strong heritage which embraces the diversity of our people and their professional disciplines to achieve the specific objectives of a world class Land Grant institution. Strong educational, research and outreach (extension) programs are established through the commitment of competent individuals serving in a focused fashion to address society's needs. My overarching vision for the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition is "to provide an environment in which individual faculty, staff and student contributions flourish in alignment with common goals."

We are a department of concerned individuals focused on common goals. We expect to provide quality graduate and undergraduate programs which are competent and enriching. We have attempted to provide basic background material regarding our department. This material is of course evolutionary and will be continually expanded and updated.

The Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition at Michigan State University (MSU) is jointly administered by the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources and the College of Natural Science. All four of the undergraduate majors require a basic science background which is a prerequisite to the upper level courses in food science and human nutrition. Programs may lead to B.S degree in the following areas:

Graduate programs leading to M.S and Ph.D degrees are available in the basic disciplines of Food Science and Human Nutrition. Each program is individually designed to meet the expectations of our students. I invite you to explore the numerous areas of faculty expertise which are available for graduate research programs in the following areas:

Our faculty and staff are available to assist you with access and understanding of our educational programs. To contact specific individuals please refer to our faculty, staff and student directory. If you have suggestions or comments on the homepage materials please contact us.

Sincerely,

Gale Strasburg, Ph.D.
