THE MISSION
Instruction
The undergraduate and graduate programs in Food Science and Human
Nutrition in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources
serve those students wishing to pursue careers in dairy/food
processing industries. To
adequately I prepare students for these careers, access to the
latest technology and equipment, appropriate to the dairy/food
industry, is essential.
Research
New
technologies of processing along with issues of food safety And
diet/health present a formidably challenge to strengthening the
research program in dairy processing.
Modernization of this facility enhances the ability of the
scientists in Food Science and Human Nutrition to address these
important issues.
Extension/ Outreach
The faculty in the department serves as an important resource for the
dairy processing industries in Michigan.
During the last 15-20 years, the technology incorporated in
dairy plant design and the detail in regulation has become
increasingly complex. A
modern processing plant is established to aid in the training of
industry and regulatory personnel for Michigan's dairy processing
industries.
The Dairy Food Complex also will act as an important educational tool for
educators working on food and career units in schools and other
groups. Tours and
drop-in visits by the public will conservatively result in 10,000
visitors per year.
