Program Description and Admission Requirements

Michigan State University's dietetic curriculum has been carefully designed so that supporting discipline courses provide a knowledge base prerequisite to the professional courses. Course offerings are sequenced to provide learning experiences that become increasingly complex, build upon and integrate previous knowledge. The curriculum focuses on the basic disciplines of nutrition, foods and management with concerns for the application of knowledge in these disciplines to the maintenance of health and well-being of humans throughout their lives. The impact of food and nutrition in different cultural, economic and social settings is woven throughout the curriculum. The dietetics program is open to any undergraduate student in good standing at MSU.

Transfer Credit : Students who have completed coursework at another College or University must have an official copy of the transcript from the institution forwarded to the Office of Admissions and Scholarships, 250 Administration Building, Michigan State University, East Lansing, MI, 48824.

Academic Calendar

The Registrar’s Office maintains the academic calendar and publishes it on the web at http://www.reg.msu.edu/ROInfo/Calendar/Academic.asp.  New students receive a printed Spartan Planner calendar/date book at their orientation session.
 

Completion of American Dietetic Association Requirements

Upon completion of program and University graduation requirements for a Bachelor of Science degree, students are issued a verification statement for the Didactic Program in Dietetics from the program director.  This standardized form verifies that all academic requirements of the American Dietetic Association (ADA) have been successfully completed and is required for participation in an ADA-accredited dietetic internship.

After successful completion of the internship, the individual is qualified to take the National Examination for Registered Dietitians (“RD Exam”).  Those who pass the exam earn the R.D.—Registered Dietitian—credential.
