Michigan State University Accommodating Technology Committee

Minutes of 3/17/99 Meeting

Present: Allen, Belsky, Blosser, Eulenberg, Forro, Hudson, Klienhardt, Pedraza, Wisniewski, Wittick.

1. The meeting was called to order by Eulenberg at 1:39 p.m.

2. Eulenberg announced the dates of the remaining spring ATC meetings on 4/7 and 4/21. He mentioned the possibility of meeting in the new Radiology facility.

3. APP&R final recommendations were distributed. Item 5, the talking sign demo project, was discussed. Blosser said that he had mentioned this project to Mr. Barry Latoszewski (Coordinator of Construction and Design for Housing and Food Services, and a member of the president's committee), who responded that he would like to assist with implementation, especially in the MSU Union. It was suggested that we might ask Mr. Latoszewski for a letter of support, thereby strengthening our proposal. Hudson said that the International Center and the Union were interchangeable, in his view, and that beginning with the Union offers the possibility of using the check-out hand held units with visitors. It was moved (Hudson) and seconded (Forro) that Blosser contact Mr. Latosawski about writing such a support letter to Dr. Hunt.

4. Allen raised the question of whether any office at MSU would have an ergonomically designed keyboard for short term use by a student, staff, or faculty member. One of the College of Nursing's masters students needs one for writing her comprehensive exam. It was suggested that the Client Advocacy Office would be appropriate for meeting this need, as they are charged with providing short term accommodations of this sort. Hudson recommended that information on this topic be more widely promulgated, as part of MSU's overall policy of ergonomic assistance.

5. The meeting was adjourned (Hudson; Wisniewski) at 2:23 pm.

Respectfully submitted,

George D. Allen, Recording Secretary
