Present: Allen, Belsky, Blievernicht, Blosser, Eulenberg, Fisher, Forro, Hestenes, Hudson, Klienhardt, Pedraza, Renuk, Wisniewski, Wittick.
1. The meeting was called to order by vice-chair Hudson at 1:49 p.m.
2. Hudson discussed the ongoing evaluation of talking computer devices, noting that it appears better to acquire generic screen reading software than packages developed for specific applications. Generic software will work on any screen and will likely not have to be upgraded as often as the more specialized programs.
3. Eulenberg noted that, as important as talking sign technology may be for accommodating users with visual disabilities, not many sites are currently using it. MSU might therefore be able to generate good public relations, including international, through our proposed program. Regarding the budget for this project, $1,000.00 will have to be added for installation by physical plant. The budget now totals $15,000.00, including $4,000.00 allocated for Blosser's time. This item will go into the section including "other ATC requests." Specific locations for the talking sign transmitters have been suggested by Forro. Eulenberg would also like to add some extensions for foreign visitors.
4. Eulenberg went though the APP&R document, as submitted to Dr. Hunt.
5. The meeting was adjourned (Wisniewski; Renuk) at 3:09 pm.
Respectfully submitted,
George D. Allen, Recording Secretary
