Present: G. Allen, M. Belsky, S. Blosser, J. Eulenberg, D. Fisher, D. Forro, M. Hudson, T. Hwang, D. Kleinhardt, J. Renuk, C. Wisniewski, R. Wittick.
1. Eulenberg brought the meeting to order at 1:38 p.m.
2. Renuk inquired as to whether this committee's purview includes adaptive exercise equipment. Eulenberg replied that it would depend, and asked Renuk to prepare a document for discussion at a later meeting.
3. Hudson circulated a memo on software site licenses and upgrades. The committee was reminded that corroboration of these needs should be made in other appropriate units' requests.
4. Hudson and Hwang indicated that they will have a document describing talking signs ready for the next committee meeting. They suggest starting with the main library and/or the International Center food court and bookstore. Belsky asked what other campuses currently use talking signs; Hwang replied UC San Francisco. He will email addresses of other campuses later.
5. Blosser reported that one OPHS workstation user requires an editor for mathematical equations.
6. Laptop loan program
Blosser circulated a document describing the need for two portable laptop PCs for use by individuals with disabilities. He has spoken with Marsh Hestenes to coordinate this request with the Computer Center's APP&R request via Lew Greenberg.
Eulenberg raised the question of how our site licenses that use key server software to monitor usage and control permissions can be extended to cover non-networked laptops. Hudson noted that some applications, such as ZoomText, are easy to incorporate; other applications have their own security, in addition to our keyserver cookies.
7. Forro circulated a document describing the libraries' request for two closed circuit TV systems, a high speed document scanner and Kurzweil 3000 software. Blosser asked whether the K3000 software might be shared between the libraries, the DRC, and the Clara Bell Smith Center lab. Eulenberg suggested that another copy would perhaps be a better solution.
