1. The meeting was called to order by Eulenberg at 1:45 p.m.
2. Eulenberg noted with pleasure that our student representatives, Chris Wisniewski and Jacquelyn Lowman, have been approved by ASMSU and COGS, respectively.
3. Minutes of ATC meetings of 10/14/98 and 10/28/98 were approved, with ammendments.
4. APP&R
Libraries: Forro reported that she is still discussing upcoming needs with Hudson.
Nursing: Allen noted that the College of Nursing will soon be installing a new microcomputer teaching laboratory, and it would be appropriate for CON staff to review accessibility issues as this installation goes forward. Allen suggested that he meet with CON Dean Rothert to determine optimal procedures. The committee concurred.
5. Hudson discussed the so-called "talking signs" project, noting that this technology can be especially useful inside buildings, where signs are often inaccessible inside "protective" glass cases. Outside signs may be able to use new GPS (global positioning satellite) technology. In response to Forro's question regarding information on the user's distance from a talking sign, Hudson replied in the negative, that the signal just becomes less distinct as distance increases. Eulenberg suggested that it is important for the committee to come to a conclusion as to whether we will make or support a request in this area this year. Forro asked that Libraries be included in this request, since substatntial changes are currently under consideration for next semester. Finally, Hudson noted that he would like to see a standard for IR (infrared) technology use at MSU, and Eulenberg commented on the new ACER IR technology for Wintel portables.
6. Hudson circulated a copy of a NFB document which, in essence, says that MSU can digitize learning materials (documents, etc.) for use by individuals with special needs without having to worry about copyright law. Forro email committee members the URL of a related document from closingthegap.com
