Michigan State University

It's time, Spartans

No matter what phrase you use to describe the excitement of the start of a new academic year, one thing is certain: It’s time to make the most of the remarkable array of opportunities for intellectual and personal growth that Michigan State University provides.

Whether you’re new to MSU or returning to campus, I welcome you and encourage you to begin the year by exploring the possibilities, participating, and contributing as a Spartan.

You are part of a proud tradition and a force for good as one of more than half a million MSU alumni, faculty, staff, and students around the world who work every day to make a positive impact in all kinds of ways—from inventing vaccines and fighting poverty to creating community gardens, starting businesses, and making movies.

Make it your best year yet, and show your Spartan spirit and pride in all you do. And be sure to keep up with me throughout the year by reading my blog—From the President’s Desk—at and by sharing your thoughts with me by e-mail at

All the best for an exceptional year—SPARTANS WILL.
