Part I: Planning the Writing Project

Agreement and Proposal

Once Tim and I got to know each other and discussed the issues we would be dealing with, we had to come up with an agreement for what my assignments would entail. This is what we came up with, updates are offered below.

Audience Assessment

Next, Tim and I had to decide exactly who my audience was going to be. This was a good chance for me to take a look at the very large, yet specific people I would be writing for.

Part II: Working on the Writing Project

Fact File

Here you will find important facts and information about the YouVote organization as well as my interview with agency contact, Tim O'malley.

Journal Entries

Tim came to class as often as he could to clarify things and discuss any concerns we had. I made an entry in my journal  every time Tim came to class, as well as every time I got together with my group to work on  assignments for the Service Learning Writing Project.

Here is an update of the Service Learning Writing Project as of October 19, 2005. There are a few minor changes in plans but mostly just information to keep you posted on what I've been doing.

Service-Learning Writing Project for YouVote

Most of the work I did for YouVote, aside from physically registering people to vote, was done to be posted on their website. Here you can find a link to all of the writing assignments I did for YouVote as instructed by Agency Contact, Tim O'Malley.

Part III: Evaluating the Writing Project

Reflections on the SLWP Experience

This is a piece of writing about what I thought of the Service Learning Writing project, what I gained, and what I feel I can take away from it and use as I continue forward with my education and my life. I would suggest reading this if you are yourself thinking about engaging in service learning.

Study Group Writing Project Evaluation

As I was working with 4 other students for YouVote, certain matters had to be taken into account for the writing strategies employed. The brief, completed form at this link is a collection of simple reflections regarding my experience writing with Cathleen, Jessica, Ryan and Kellie.

Agency Evaluation for Service-Learning Writing Project

At this link is a "blank" version of the evaluation form my agency contact person, Tim O'malley, filled out after I completed all of his assignments. The grades he gives me are confidential until the end of the semester. I do, however, believe I did an exceptional job of doing what was asked of me. I have no complaints as everything went very smoothly while working with Tim.
