Program Partners

Our community and industry partners are many and are critical to the success of the program. Professional Writing students and faculty teach and learn through community engagement and through activities with government and industry partners.

Community Outreach and Learning

The Writing Program at Michigan State has a long history of community service learning. Service learning and community-based research are common ways that we teach and learn. We encourage individuals and organizations to contact us in order to understand how we can best help transform local communities. For instance:

Professional Writing students conducted usability studies and information architecture analyses that led to the redevelopment of the MSU Libraries Electronic Resources web site.

Professional Writing students created an interactive, multimedia CD and web site now published on the Cherokee Nation web site, which receives thousands of hits per day.

Industry Engagement

Professional writers are communication specialists skilled in writing in diverse media to help organizations meet the needs of their audiences. Our students are grants and proposal writers, content developers, designers, and usability analysts for intranet and internet products, editing and publications specialists, and active citizens who work within and communicate across diverse communities and cultures.

Organizations that recruit professional writing students for internships benefit from their expertise and energy. Interested organizations should contact Dànielle Nicole DeVoss (devossda@msu.edu) about internship possibilities.
