PW Internships, Partners, & Organizations

PW Internships | PW Partners | PW Organizations

"Professional Writing students are good at recognizing opportunities and problems, designing thoughtful inquiries to address those problems and opportunities, and producing solutions that are creative, smart, and useful. They know how to learn, can see patterns and connections, and can represent this learning to others. This is what good writing does for audiences, what knowledge work does for organizations." (PW Professor Jeff Grabill)

PW Internships

Most Professional Writing students are required to complete an internship as part of their program experience. Students can pursue their own internship opportunity or work with the Director of Professional Writing on a placement. Support, preparation, and advising are available to students to help place them in the best and most appropriate internship possible.

The internship is a learning opportunity--a moment to engage intellectually with writing in the workplace. Internships must be approved by the Director of Professional Writing, and we use the internship agreement (see below) as a way to engage the student, the internship partner, and the program in a dialogue to craft an experience that is beneficial to both the student and the organization for which the student will work.

Ideally before the internship begins, or no later than the end of the second week of their internship, students will need to fill out the following internship form (Word doc format) and submit it to the Director of Professional Writing.
