Jerry Mattson taught in the American Thought and Language Department for 31 years, before retiring in July, 2001. He has presented numerous papers and slide presentations at local, regional, and national popular culture and American studies meetings. He has also presented programs for Victorian studies and American architectural history groups.
Mattson developed two different programs for the Study Abroad Office, including courses in American Thought and Language and in Integrative Arts and Humanities. He continues to direct the ATL/Arts and Humanities program, slated to return to England and Scotland in the summer of 2002.
Mattson continues his musical life, as clarinetist in the Lansing Concert Band and the Meridian Community Band, and as bass-baritone in the MSU Choral Union and the St. Thomas Aquinas Choir. He is also owner-proprietor of Lantern Enterprises, a book dealership specializing in illustrated children’s books, modern first editions, music-related books, and 19th- and early 20th-century American sheet music.
