[u]

[u] is articulated with the back of the tongue raised close to the roof of the mouth. The lips are a little rounded.

[uw]

The articulation of [uw] is similar to that of [uw], except that the lips are closer together and more rounded, as if whistling. The vowel is diphthongized.
