ORIENTATION, ENGLISH SCREENING, AND ENGLISH
INSTRUCTION FOR MSU TEACHING ASSISTANTS
ACADEMIC YEAR 2002-2003
The Graduate School
The Office of the Provost and the Graduate School sponsor two required campus-level orientation and training programs for new teaching assistants: an orientation for new international TAs, and the Seminar on College Teaching for all TAs. The MSU Teaching Assistant Program is responsible for arranging both programs. Students who are not TAs but who will be required to teach as part of their academic programs should also participate in these programs.
The Office of the Provost and the Graduate School also sponsor English language testing and instruction for new international TAs. MSU's English Language Center (ELC) conducts the language testing. The Teaching Assistant Program provides language instruction for TAs who do not meet the minimum language requirement.
The following pages summarize the dates, policies, and procedures for these services in Academic Year 2002-2003. Departments are responsible for being familiar with these policies and for informing their TAs about requirements for participation. Contact persons for questions about the services are listed below.
