The University of Mississippi
During the summer of 2006, I served as the adjunct professor for EDSE 502 (Multicultural Field Experience). It was the first year that the Mississippi Teacher Corps administered a summer school session at Holly Springs. I was glad to be a part of that successful endeavor. I also served in several other capacities:
*
Assistant instructor for EDSE 500 – Foundations of Secondary Education
* Administrator for Holly Springs High School summer school
*
Taught a three-day seminar on web page design and FTP transfer programs
East Side High School
I taught at East Side High School from 2004 to 2006. During that time, I received numerous evaluations that are all posted on this web site. I began as the public speaking teacher in the Fall of 2004. After nine weeks, I was asked to teach English II after a teacher resigned in the middle of the year. English II is a state tested area, and it is a requirement that students pass the state test before they are cleared to graduate. The year before, the school had a 59.2% pass rate on the English II multiple choice test. At the end of the 2004-2005 school year, the school had improved to 76.4% passing. I have been grateful to have played a part in that improvement, and for the 2005-2006 school year, I worked to ensure we keep the scores moving in the right direction. One part of this is coordinating the after school tutoring program for English II. This is for students who have been identified as being in danger of failing the test.
Mason High School
Before coming to East Side, I completed student teaching at Mason High School in Mason, Michigan. There I worked developing and delivering lessons to 9th grade classes. This was all part of the education program I was in at Michigan State, which was just ranked the number one education program in the country for the 12th year in a row. After completing my student teaching, I was accepted to the Mississippi Teacher Corps. This is a two year program that places students in critical teacher shortage areas. These schools are usually in the Mississippi Delta region. My experience is something I will always treasure. Reflections on my work during the last two years can be found here.
At East Side, I was fortunate enough to be featured in the local papers. The following are the clippings:
My 10th grade students created original children's stories. The following clipping shows them reading to the elementary school students.

I was featured as Educator of the Week in the following clipping:
