Option A
Three Midterm
Exams – 25% each Class Presentation
& Handout – 15% Participation and
Peer Reviews – 10% |
Option B
Short Paper – 15% Term Paper (two
drafts) – 60% Class Presentation
& Handout – 15% Participation and Peer Reviews – 10% |
Ø Mid-Term Exams: Under option A, you will be responsible for
three take-home exams, each of which will be worth 25% of your final grade. For
each take-home exam you will answer two out of three questions (each answered
question should run about 4-5 pages). The final midterm exam will be due during
exam week.
Ø Term
Paper: Under option B, a final term paper of approximately 10 -12 pages
will count for 60% of your final grade. You will be expected to research
related philosophical work and to present your own views on the material/subject.
I will be looking for careful analysis and critical independent thought. I
require students to submit two drafts of their paper; the final draft will be
due during exam week.
Ø
Class
Presentation and Handout:
Each student will give a presentation on one of the assigned readings. The
presentation should take approximately 30 minutes and can include visuals and
discussion questions for the class, or not. Try to focus on one or two
controversial points rather than simply summarizing the entire article. Along
with your presentation, you should bring a short handout of 2-3 pages to share
with the class. The presentation and handout are worth 15% of your final grade.
Ø
Participation
and Peer Reviews: 10% of
your final grade will be awarded for general class participation and peer
reviews. Each student will have the opportunity to read and comment on two of
your classmates’ work. I will be looking for thoughtful and helpful comments.
