In addition to the dogs we have available for adoption, we are happy to provide a referral service for people who, for one reason or another, are forced to give up their pets. Since these dogs are not with us we have not personally provided their veterinary care but can share with you the information we have been given by their current owners.
If you're interested in utilizing our referral service we'd be pleased to put your dog's picture and story on our site to help them get the best home possible.

Samson is a very happy, very friendly boy who has good reason to be happy. He was, as so many others recently in these uncertain economic times, abandoned and left to fend for himself. He did a very good job and found the home of a true animal lover and let her know he was frightened, hungry, thirsty, cold and very much in need of a hug. One look at that face and how could she refuse! However she is moving shortly into a condo and cannot keep Samson so he is looking for a wonderful home who will love him always, just as he will love them. Sampson is housebroken and so well behaved in the house, in the yard, in the car and on walks. He is very good with the cat and other dogs at his foster home and truly loves everyone he meets. Samson is also very smart and very eager to please - he's learned obedience in record time and is even learning to walk on brick steps in the garden instead of on the plants! What a good boy! If you'd like to make this smiling, loving boy a treasured member of your family, please fill in our online adoption application .
Rosko is a very sweet rottweiler/shepherd mix who is losing his home shortly when his folks move to an apartment. Rosko, as you can see from his photos is very much a big, cuddly baby who loves to snuggle and give and receive affection. He's well trained, perfect in the house, in the car, out on a walk. As Michigan sinks deeper and deeper into economic despair I'm afraid we're going to be seeing more and more situations where incredibly wonderful dogs, the essence of love and devotion, are losing their families through no fault of their own and who hope with all their hearts that there are kind souls out there who will open their hearts and homes to them. For that gift Rosko will repay you with a lifetime of faithfulness and loyalty. To adopt Rosko, please fill in our online adoption application.

Alyze is a very cute and cuddly little bully terrier who wants to give you the biggest bear hug and love you forever. Alyze is only one year old and had the very poor luck to find herself in an animal shelter which sells its pets for research experiments if they are not adopted. This girl is so exceptional that the entire staff has promised her they will never let her meet that fate. As a matter fact they have kept her there 3 weeks past her availability date to try to find her a home. A good samaritan is sponsoring Alyze so she will be spayed and have all her vaccinations by the time you adopt her. And to make that adoption happen all you need to do is fill in our online adoption application .
There are so many wonderful things to say about Sophie, its hard to know where to begin. As you can see by looking at her shelter photo (last one on her photo page), she was no stranger to having puppies. As a matter of fact she looks like she had them every time she came into heat. This last time was different tho. Another dog got into the yard and the owner, realizing they may not get as much money as they wanted, dumped Sophie at their local shelter in W. Virginia. The shelter has a heart that that you wished every shelter in the nation had. They were so impressed with Sophie, who was kissing baby kittens, that they vowed to do everything in their power so she wouldn't be put to sleep. They sent us her photo. Who on earth could say no?!? Sophie quickly found herself on a hastily put together 2-day transport to Michigan. When we picked her up she was tired from the hot journey but gave grateful kisses as she climbed the steps into the car. On Jun 22, two hours after she got home she began having her puppies. But having a serious case of pneumonia making breathing very difficult, no prenatal care and so many previous litters stretching her muscles, labor lasted 23 hours, with a trip to the emergency vet in the middle of the night for x-rays for retained puppies, antibiotics for the pneumonia and a couple of shots to induce contractions. Finally all the puppies arrived and Sophie was the best mother in the world. She wouldn't even get up to eat or drink and had to be served breakfast in 'bed'. Once a day she let herself be talked into going outside to relieve herself but not until all her puppies were loaded into a carrier and put out on the front lawn with her. Sophie is a wonderfully calm and wise dog who is nothing but pure love. She wants to be right by your side and when out for a walk, no matter how interesting a scent she's found, she will come to you the instant she's called. She would never dream of chewing or being destructive in the house and really is a treasure of a dog. Sophie is around 6 years old and loves to play, go for long walks and rides in the car. You couldn't ask for a more perfect companion nor has there ever been a dog easier to live with and to love. Sophie has devoted her life to raising and nurturing her puppies, now its her turn to be someone's cherished 'baby' and she is ready to become your heart-dog and life soulmate. To welcome Sophie into your home, please fill in our online adoption application.
Emmy is one of Sophie's wonderful choices. These very healthy, very happy youngsters have grown up with multiple other adult rottweilers and with cats, parrots and other animals and are very loving to all. They have been fed only organic food and are on the latest, safest vaccine protocol. As with any multiovulating animal (dog, cat, etc) each different egg can be fertilized by a different father. As a matter of fact the AKC has recently begun registering multi-sired litters. In Sophie's case we know one of the fathers was a rottweiler, the other father appears to have been a labrador (and the reason poor Sophie was sent to the pound).
Emmy is the athlete of the group. She's so soft and beautiful you'd never guess she has the heart of a tomboy. If you've ever worked a dog in agility before or have ever had a desire to do so, Emmy is your girl. She will be high point dog in each and every event and it will be impossible to decide who's having the most fun - you, or Emmy! Emmy, like the rest of her sisters and brother, loves to watch TV. Their heads go back and forth following the action and if a dog barks they'll peer behind the TV looking for it! Emmy is an exceptionally special girl looking for an exceptionally special family to share the rest of her life with - if that's you, please fill in our online adoption application.
Mariposa is one of Sophie's wonderful choices.
Mariposa was the runt of the litter and for the first week of life the other puppies used to push her out of the way while nursing. To make sure Mariposa got enough to eat she used to get time alone with Sophie until she had eaten all she could hold. And she was held constantly to make sure she'd stay warm. Consequently she grew up to be a great cuddler and kisser! Her soft, brown eyes light up when she sees you as she waits for a big hug. While she was growing up her little ears stuck straight out to the sides and she looked just like a beautiful little butterfly, hence her name which means 'butterfly' in Spanish. Mariposa, like the rest of her sisters and brother, loves to watch TV. Their heads go back and forth following the action and if a dog barks they'll peer behind the TV looking for it! Mariposa is an exceptionally special girl looking for an exceptionally special family to share the rest of her life with - if that's you, please fill in our online adoption application.

Feather is the most maternal of the group and wants to be sure everyone she loves is ok. She firmly believes that a kiss can solve all the world's problems and she never runs out of kisses. No matter what she's doing, even if she's in the middle of eating, she will stop and come give you a kiss if you walk into the room. And with her huge brown eyes she never fails to let you know you are the most important person in her world. Feather, like the rest of her sisters and brother, loves to watch TV. Their heads go back and forth following the action and if a dog barks they'll peer behind the TV looking for it! Stella is the first of the puppies to be born and we think she must have read the book 'How to win friends and influence people' because she SMILES whenever she sees you. She is such a smiler that the whole left side of her upper lip crinkles up into the most enchanting smile you've ever seen. And it has the same effect each and every time. You've got to drop whatever you're doing and give her a big hug. Of course she knows you're going to do that which makes her smile all the more. Stella, like the rest of her sisters and brother, loves to watch TV. Their heads go back and forth following the action and if a dog barks they'll peer behind the TV looking for it! Janie is a glorious red rottweiler who is the sweetest girl you will ever meet. You'd think being special like that she'd have had a wonderful life. Not so. Janie was purchased by her first owners to breed. Guess they thought that they were going to make a fortune when red rotts were a fad several years ago. When that didn't happen, Janie was unceremoniously abandoned at her groomers one day. The groomer found a new home for Janie. One she hoped would love her always. That didn't happen either. Janie's new owners decided that they had paid so much for Janie that they wouldn't spend any money on her at the vets. Ever. After several years Janie's teeth were so bad that she couldn't even open her mouth. She drooled constantly. She was barely able to eat and drinking took forever as the water just slid right back out of her mouth. Her head was so sunken in she looked more like a skeleton than a dog. After watching Janie suffer like this for a year the owners decided they couldn't stand the smell of her breath any more and brought her to rescue. Janie was so weak when she arrived she fell trying to come up the two steps into the house. Of course our vet got her in immediately and did her dental. They said they had never seen nor smelled a mouth in worse condition. Indeed all of Janie's roots were exposed which is why she was in so much pain. After a week of being on antibiotics and getting good food Janie is a new woman! She runs down the paths, dances a cute little 'happy jig' at meal times and has captured the hearts of all who have met her with her jaunty spirit and loving ways. Janie loves cats and wants so badly to make friends with the wild turkeys who wander through the yard. Janie is great with other dogs, both males and females and adores children. She is super with cats, birds, quail and doesn't even mind the puppies stealing her food. Janie 'shakes hands' for treats and comes the instant you call her. She is an angel in the house, never thinking of chewing anything or being destructive and is immaculately housebroken. Janie loves to go for walks in the woods, swims in the pond and car rides. So far Janie has had 19 teeth extracted but you'd never know it the way she plays, chews her bones and one of her favorite treats - ice cubes. Janie is between 8 and 9 years young with a heart of purest gold. If you'd like to make this enchanting girl part of your loving family - please fill in our online adoption application.
Wonder is wondering why she is in rescue and so are we. She appeared, seemingly out of nowhere, in the midst of January's record snowfall next to a large snowdrift. There were no pawprints in the street giving rise to the suspicion that she was dumped out of a car. A found-dog report was filed with the local shelter, found ads were run in the paper, there was no collar or microchip to trace. Wonder is not a youngster but she's clearly been a beloved family member her entire life. She's used to sleeping on the bed, dances a 'happy jig' at mealtimes, shakes hands and is immaculately housetrained. She is very patient with the puppies here and gets along beautifully with all the adults, both females and males and she's super with the cats and parrots. We know that Michigan is in the midst of some very difficult economic times. Good folks are losing their jobs and subsequently their homes and having to move when they really don't want to. For many of those families pets can't come along and they are forced to make decisions they ordinarily would never consider. Such as leaving an animal in a place where they hope it will find help. Wonder is probably around 7 years young and would be very grateful to give her love and loyalty to a new family. She's very calm and quiet in the house and very easy to live with. If you'd like to give Wonder a retirement home, please fill in our online adoption application.
