Animal Welfare Courses Online at MSU Animal welfare is a complex issue with implications across a broad range of societal concerns. Professionals in animal-related industries, including veterinarians and animal scientists are being called upon to assess the welfare of animals, but few are adequately trained to do so. To address the growing need for professionals trained to evaluate animal welfare, the Animal Behavior and Welfare Group (ABWG) at Michigan State University (MSU) is creating and teaching web-based animal welfare courses. By placing the course online and collaborating with highly qualified instructors around the world, students anywhere can have access to the best education in animal welfare. Web-based interaction between students and instructors from many different institutions provides students with access to a broad network of animal welfare professionals and researchers as well as opportunities for dialogue and future collaboration. Two online animal welfare classes are currently available at MSU, one at the graduate level and one at the undergraduate level. The classes can be taken for credit through MSU even if you are not an MSU student. To find out more about each course, click on the titles below. •Graduate Level ANS 805 = Animal Welfare Assessment (Fall 2007) •Undergraduate Level = Animal Welfare: Science & Society (TBA) Spring 2008: ANS 805 Begins on January 7
