I am currently working on a project exploring ways to present data to inform decision making. Some of these ideas are contained in the following report of a study at the Michigan Virtual High School.

2002. I am also writing
a paper on the power of web-based electronic portfolios from organizational
and individual lifespan perspectives. My thinking grows out of several
years of developing a model for integrating electronic portfolios into
my courses and into degree programs. Book recommendations. Paperless office? Electronic readings? What's worth keeping? I've been cleaning my office and thinking about which books are worth keeping. During fall semester 2000 I concentrated on our new on-campus masters degree program in educational technology, which has about thirty students, most of them currently teaching, enrolled. As part of that program, I taught a new course: CEP 882: Electronic Portfolios in Teaching and Learning In this course and in other activiites I am exploring various issues and approaches to online learning. More about me. Long ago and far away I taught physics, chemistry, physical science and mathematics at East Atlanta High School . I've been interested in technology in education since falling in love with an Apple II...48K of memory! In November 1983 Family Computing did an article how my then-preschoolers, Andrew and Josh , were using our Apple II+ with its 48K of memory at our home. (That's a picture of Josh at Myrtle Beach when he was about four on the wall over my shoulder above.) My children have grown up in the age of computers. As computers have become smaller and more powerful, my children have become bigger and more powerful. Andrew has grown from a serious ten-month old to an playful undergraduate on his motorcycle . Elissa is a junior at East Lansing High School and plays volleyball and soccer, among her many other pursuits, including attending spring prom. I teach courses on cognition and technology, lifespan developmental psychology, and technology in teaching and learning. Recently, with a
grant from the
National Science Foundation , we have been exploring issues around
preparing future faculty to integrate technology in their teaching and
learning at the university level as a necessary component of any successful
approach to preparing K-12 teachers to integrate technology into their
teaching and learning. During spring semester, 2000, I taught two courses: TE 150: Reflections on Learning CEP 909: Cognition and Technology In this graduate seminar course, the students and I worked on developing personal information strategies , self-study skill learning , and sharing our learning via the Web . Each student is working on a major project and learning a skill . On March 17th, a 32-month-old preschooler demonstrated Jumpstart Preschool in my CEP 909 class that stimulated a wonderful discussion of issues around lifespan development and technology. Her visit also took me back to when my own kids were preschoolers. Computers have changed a lot but kids are still kids. Both of these courses are being influenced by an innovative course, CEP 813, being offered by my colleagues, Yong Zhao and Punya Mishra, in which faculty members work with masters and doctoral students as a learning community to support professional development for faculty and students in learning to integrate technology into teaching. |
