Welcome
Phi Beta Delta, first established
at California State University at Long Beach in 1986, was chartered in 1987 with 38 founding chapters.
MSU's chapter is one of the founding
chapters. It is the first national honor society dedicated to
recognizing scholarly achievement in international education.
Phi Beta Delta's purpose is to address the need on campus for
recognition and visibility of the international experience and
to serve as a vehicle for the development of academic-based
international programming. It provides a network on each campus
for faculty, staff, and students involved in international endeavors
and extend this network to thousands of members in chapters
across the nation.
Each of the Greek letters is symbolic of a value important to
the members of Phi Beta Delta.
Phi stands for love of knowledge, Beta for the value
of human life, and Delta for achieving excellence.
The colors of the society are red and gold, symbolizing the
strength of humankind and the energy of the sun from which all
peoples and cultures draw strength and love.
