Lansing's famous River Trail is among the largest in the country with just over 8 miles of urban trailway. The trail traces the banks of the Grand and Red Cedar rivers and welcomes a wide variety of users. The River Trail is also home to a number o special events, including the Annual Riverfest, the Annual Mayor's Walk, Michigan Run, the Capiol City River Run and a number of other city sponsored activities.

The trail provieds easy reference markers every 1/4 miles. It is regularly patrolled by the Lansing Police Department. The terrain is relatively flat and easy to traverse with a hard asphalt surface and boardwalk. The boardwalk skirts out over the rivers at frequent intervals to provide scenic vistas. The east end between Aurelius and Clippert is particularly scenic and provides users with an opportunity to experience wetlands, woodlands and associated wildlife in an otherwise urban setting.
