About me

My name is Joshua Nixon. I graduated from Michigan State University with a Ph.D. in Zoology in 2005. I am currently a postdoctoral fellow in the MinnCResT program at the University of Minnesota. I live in Minneapolis with my wife and two cats. Despite my longstanding interest in armadillos, I have never studied them professionally. My own research has focused on the circadian control of behavior in rodents.

About this website

I started this website in 1995, and have been adding to it ever since. I chose armadillos as the subject of my site for no real reason — I got interested in the armadillo in high school as the subject of several art projects, and since I couldn’t think of anything else while designing my first website, Armadillo Online was born. This whole website started out as sort of a joke. Over the years I became more serious about the scientific content of the site. As more visitors found it, and more people submitted images, information and feedback, the site has grown from its simple beginnings to the page you see today.
