July 19-25, 2008

Sponsored by Michigan State University Extension, Epsilon Sigma Phi and the
Institute of International Agriculture
Mary Andrews, Tour Leader.

Due Date for Enrollment: January 15, 2008

Join your fellow food lovers on a fun filled gourmet adventure through Central and Eastern France. This one-week pre-Congress Study Tour will focus on the diverse Bourgogne (Burgandy) and Franche-Comte regions of France known for their fine wines; and the valleys of northeastern France famous for specialty cheeses (Emmental, Bleu de Gex, etc.) and delicatessen products. An intimate program is planned with numerous visits to wineries, cheese coops, “fruitieres” or cheese dairies, hostelries, and markets. Sprinkled throughout the route are famous medieval towns, castles and abbeys. This region is famous for its historic significance as the “Gaul” or “Rome” of France and site of the launching of the Third Crusade!

Although the wine makers will be preparing for the fall harvest, they will provide instructional tours of their cellars and wineries, with ample time for tasting and learning about wines and cheeses. Mid-summer is a special time to observe the beauties of nature and to sample the rich bounty of the gardens, orchards and markets of the region. Be prepared to bring home lasting memories, armloads of recipes and pictures, and some guarded secrets of French cuisine!
