Hello Local 1585 Members:

Here is a little history about your President.  Jim Rhodes, started out employed in the Custodial Department, in the Fall of 1990, as a Custodian II.  From there, he moved to A.H.D.L. as a Laboratory Sanitation Worker, which is in C.V.M.  This position, involved working in the Autopsy Lab in the Vet Clinic.

Those five years, were very exciting and interesting.  It was the time when Tuberculosis hit Michigan.  There has never been so many dead cows or deer in one place.

From there, I moved to the Large Animal Clinic in C.V.M. as a Animal Caretaker III / Repair.  Along my journey from these positions, I have always been active in Local 1585 from Steward to Negotiator, and served on the Executive Board for several years.

Now, as your President, I have been asked, "What do you stand for?"  "What are your goals?"  "What are your most pressing concerns?"  Here are some answers to your questions:

I stand for strong union leadership.  Without information and participation, along with smart leadership, no organization can survive.

Some other strong standpoints, to give the membership the best representation from this Local and Council 25, that it can benefit from.

Goals for this Local President, is to be more mobile on campus and more interaction with the members.  Try to continue a good benefit package at M.S.U.  To get more people to become active by coming to our meetings, spreading productive information, so that members are informed to the decisions being made at M.S.U. with Local Unions and Financial businesses.

I hope this piece of history, about your President, is helpful to all 1585 members.  I am looking forward to seeing and talking to all of you, at the next General Membership Meeting.

Thank You,
Jim Rhodes,
Local 1585 President
